Wow. Last night was the first time in years I slept through the night. My BP medicine causes sleep deprivation and "vivid dreams" . And I wake up to this. I will puzzle it as I stumble through the day.
Joan, I think you might have posted this in the wrong thread? Either that or everyone is on an Ambien trip this morning.

Ironically I encounter a gout like condition which my Doctor daughter tells me is not gout
My right leg causes pain when I walk and inhibits me for a few days................after I have had a meal of seafood. First occurred after a delicious lobster dish at Coda.
I would like to explore the highways and byways of the Village to answer Mr. C's question
Right now I will be lucky to hobble downstairs to Village Coffee for a Feta Cheese Omelette
Since I am hobbled today with a bad right foot that is providing ouches when I walk I will try to work from memory and my mismatched fuzzy slippers
I have made no secret of the fact that I live above the Village Coffee
By coincidence.............30 years ago or more I did the Pest Control Service in the building
At the time...........the shop that occupied what is now Village Coffee was Maplewood Camera
Reading the sign in even the most basic Italian..............which happens to be my 3rd and weakest
language............it has something to do with an Italian Photography Company
My guess is that it was a link to the camera shop which existed here for many years
I just don't remember seeing it around the Village in my travels lately
Wrong Village. And no coffee served there then or now, though I hear the brownies are still good.
ETA: And you'd have to go farther back than your exterminating days 30 years ago.

Gee, ya think? I don't speak any Italian and I can see that much.

Not YOU ,Author A POET author
Yep....................I left my heart there long ago
Had a great Italian meal in a restaurant basement sitting at a wooden picnic table
Larry and Allen and the beats made it famous
I thought Greece was all up and down and so is this city
Once got off a moving street car there and had to run more than I have ever moved my legs to avoid
falling

I had a friend many years ago whose name I shall keep for myself
We shared an ethnic background but that was just coincidence
He was a poet and totally out of his mind
The door was open and the choice was mine between the path of those who never color between the lines and law school...
So it was no choice at all
And it lead to involvement in Greece as a courier with the anti fascist students
The bastards that would stifle Democracy in its very birthplace
That one cost me 30 days confinement in what was then Yugoslavia
The domestic movement and the brave and beautiful people with whom I worked
And to quote Vonnegut " so it goes"
And through it all I have had a wonderful woman companion
Raised
A doctor daughter who gave us
Three fine "Palikaris"' that is Greek for brave young warriors"
I teach them fencing and they pull out toy ray guns and vaporize me
And when my road is traveled
I want to be able to say "Lord, I gave it my best shot"
If nothing more it has been a great life
And I never wanted to be an lawyer
author-- Hoping you see this (though the chances are small), but will be in town at VC shortly. Will have this left for you with the guys there
Got it and many thanks. Stopped by Village Coffee at about 5 and there it was waiting for me........with my usual ribbing from the owner.
My daughter lived and worked in San Francisco for a few years before Medical School. On one visit I told
the female members of the family that I wanted some alone time and hiked over to City Lights. My luck he was not there but it was still nice visiting a "sacred shrine"
I've met with Ginsberg and his companion Peter Orlovsky in their Paterson apartment but just never got it together for a visit with LF. Ken Patchen is also one of my favorites
Thank you so very much
The receipt from City Lights proves its provenance
Glad you got it, and you're most welcome. In case you hadn't noticed, LF signed it in the shop--look a page or two in.
A present awaits if you can identify the location of this disused entryway. Your pals (the old ones, not the new) should know it well.
