fireworks still on?

Has anyone heard anything about the fireworks given the forecast of rain??

The rain isn't suppose to star until later.

Plan as of 3:30 pm this afternoon was to hold the fireworks tonight.  There is a forecast of showers at about the time the fireworks are scheduled to start.  I would imagine that the organizers are paying close attention to the weather and will only cancel if the rain is too heavy to set off the fireworks safely.  Weather forecasters are suggesting bring rain gear just in case.

Soooo.... Still on or canceled?

Oh no...just hearing the rain! I have one very disappointed little boy over here, I hope it passes quickly!

Sit tight the rain will be over in 15 minutes

so no cancellation yet?

I don't think the really heavy stuff is going to come down for quite a while.

anyone know where online the official word "yay" or "nay" would be given?

Word on facebook is they have cancelled

confirmed - they have been cancelled

I really need to apologize to everyone, the rain is my fault. I wasn't thinking and blew my hair out today, which has about a 96.8% chance on average of bringing rainfall. As we were leaving the house my husband looked at my hair, looked at the sky, and then said "What the f*ck were you thinking!?!"

See lots of people heading back up the hill.  Street across from me is no longer blocked.  I assume the fireworks won't be held tonight.  Anyone know if there is a rain date tomorrow?

Facebook says raindate tomorrow, no charge for fireworks tomorrow. Happy 4th Everyone!

and 5th!

It's pretty funny...

I hear fireworks... We wussed out when the rain started coming down and made a beeline for home. Now I'm hearing fireworks and I'm worried that we missed out. Can anyone confirm who was there?

Cancelled for real. Some other municipality seems to have gone ahead with theirs.

Millburn is just finishing up their fireworks as I type this. Just ask Keegan....

I also hear fireworks.  And they don't sound like ones that amateurs put off.  Near Jefferson/Ridgewood Ave.

So far I know of cancellations for Maplewood and Union, but Millburn went ahead.  And from the sounds of it, several other nearby towns also went ahead.

Vic just posted on another thread that fireworks will be held this evening (Tuesday) at 9 pm.

We were told at 8pm by two police officers yesterday. They have been moved to 9pm instead?

it's still pretty light at 8pm

Somewhere (MOL, Facebook?) I saw mention that some of the food vendors might be returning this evening for the rescheduled fireworks.  Is that true?  Anything else, like live music, etc?

If so, when does it all start?  (I know the fireworks don't start until 9:15 or so.)

Amusements and many of the food vendors starting at 6pm,  fireworks launch at 9pm tonight (Tuesday)

Wish the town would have sent out a flash about the parking for commuters. Until I got to the station this morning had no idea the fireworks were cancelled. Only parking was in front of the new apartment buildings other areas you had to move your car by 5. I get to the station early not sure where the later commuters were going to park.

I got an email from the MPD... but no township flash.  Here's the MPD alert:

-------------------

Maplewood Police Department NJ

Advisory:

Important Information regarding July 5th Parking and Traffic in the area of Memorial Park and Maplewood Train Station

Due to the July 4th cancellation, the Township of Maplewood will be holding its fireworks on Tuesday 07/05/16 in Memorial Park on Valley Street, between Baker St. and Oakland Rd.

There will be some limited parking spaces available in the vicinity of the Maplewood Train Station until 5pm at which time most of the streets will have No Parking. Motorists are urged to please comply with the posted signage in the area.

Residents in the immediate and expanded area should be advised that the "No Parking" areas will be maintained and there will be various road closures in the area of this event. Non-emergency vehicles will not be permitted to enter a closed road due to pedestrian traffic.

Most roads surrounding Memorial Park (Valley Street) will be closed from approximately 7pm to 10pm.

Thank you,

Thanks!

Is there an official announcement of this somewhere?  And/or a list of which food vendors will be there?  (I'm wondering about whether this can be supper tonight ...)
