Got a similiar text from my kid. Apparently the fire was in a vent, the fire dept put it out and everyone is back in now.
OK, thanks! I figured it was a small thing if anything, just ambiguous enough to spark that little bit of worry.
According to my kid, there was some very rowdy behavior while the kids were outside waiting to go back inside, including throwing things at cars and fights breaking out. Sounded out of control to me. I hate hearing these things.
We had the unfortunate confluence of kids going to lunch period 7 and kids returning from lunch from period 6 -- so all of them were outside at the same location -- front of school down Kensington. We cleared kids away from Valley as best we could. One minor skirmish broke out down Kensington -- at least that I am aware as having been there to try and get kids to back off. Police brought that incident to a halt quickly. After that it was basically just very noisy and crowded.
As I went back down Kensington towards school there was some debris -- but small given that it was a huge percent of the kids during lunch. Kids helped us pick up debris as we walked back into the building, so that should also be mentioned. Most kids just has a good time and a few tried not to. Can't say it is perfect but we do not practice drills during lunch periods since by regulation we have to provide the full period for lunch periods. When events occur during lunch -- like the lock-down red last fall and this evacuation it is very hard to drill without giving up a lot of time. I have no answer to how to deal with evacuations that lead to two lunch periods mostly at the same location in front of the school.
I was driving by on Valley at the time and everyone was under control. Most of these kids are pretty good.

I suppose practicing drills during AP exams is out of the question, too? ("Line up, everyone, but no looking over the shoulder in front of you.")
Here's hoping the College Board has an appreciation for coincidence. Glad the smoke was nothing serious.

I am assuming all is under control - prank fire alarm pull or something - but if anybody is closer and has more info, would be appreciated ..
