feng shui/ Designer / Home blessing?

OK so I have had a run of bad luck and I feel like it has somehow seeped into the pores of my house. No, I am not crazy. I'm catholic. LOL. But I'm putting it out there because even my sister, who came to visit from Atlanta, said she could see what I meant. She too is not at all superstitious. She is a capitalist.

Anyway, I was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer about 3 weeks ago and aside from having my house scrubbed inside and out (before my transplant, which we hope will happen), I do feel the need to somehow air out my house and start over. I just see things differently and take nothing for granted.

So I thought to myself, what if I just need a little Feng Shui? Or maybe I need some sort of blessing throughout my house? I don't really know and I hope I'm not coming across as a crackpot, but I'm only 45 yrs old and have 2 boys (both special needs) so this diagnosis is quite a blow to me. I am trying to recover some semblance of equalibrium but under the circumstances, I figure I got nothing to lose.

Any thoughts?

cynny973,

I am so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I seem to remember a thread about this exact subject several years ago. I think, but am not entirely sure, that the original poster on that thread, was Menadtheboys. Perhaps do a search, although it may not come up on the new forum. Good luck to you, sending prayers and good vibes your way!

Thank you. I'll look around

The Marie Kondo book might help. It's life changing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was also going to suggest the Marie Kondo book. I'm sure there are people you can hire to help if it seems overwhelming. I haven't actually done it, but people say it's amazing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and I hope you can achieve a total cure quickly. LOL

In the past, people have recommended "smudging" for clearing the air and re-setting the "luck" (wrong word, but it's all I can think of right now) in a house. That might be a good word to Google or search on MOL to see if you can find someone who does blessings.

I completely understand the impulse and hope it brings you comfort.

I found this page very interesting as a starting point for a lot of different house cleansing options:

http://fengshui.about.com/od/fengshuicures/ss/How-To-Smudge-Your-House-5-Easy-Steps.htm

You can jump off from this page to more articles on feng shui, purging, and other house cleansing techniques.

Didn't there used to be ads on MOL for a feng shui practitioner???

Thanks so much Peggy!

I hope things get better for you soon. >smile<

Judie Hurtado, who offers Reiki & Energy Work sessions at Shakti Yoga may be able to help you. She often posts about smudging and clearing on her Reiki Facebook page.

Thanks. I'm going to check out the facebook page right now!

I had some negative energy issues in my home and called Linda Lauren. She recommended her spray called The Vibe and I use it every day. It has helped me, Mr Sammi and Sammi dog

A friend of mine who is Catholic and from the Philippines gets a house blessing done by a priest whenever she moves into a new home and says it's standard operating procedure in her family. If it's a tradition that has some ties to the Philippines, and it's of interest to you, there is a Filipino priest at St. Joe's in Maplewood. Might be worth a call to find out. Or I'm sure others in the know can chime in here.

have you thought about the colors in your home? i have found if the colors are off in my house at certain times it may effect me?

I'm catholic too and everyone's suggestions are on the table. But what I've read I need to declutter my house FIRST!. That is going to be a big job because I have lots of stuff I've bought wholesale for my ebay store, but now with this cancer diagnosis, fatigue and joint pain, I am going to have to slow down on a lot of things. If anyone has any idea who might want to buy 200 pair of flip flops from me that would be great! lol. Seriously I paid $3.99 for each of them on sale but I'm desperate to get rid of these boxes upon boxes in my house. My ebay store has been a great help for the extra little things like school clothes and little nice things for myself as well as gifts for others. So I dont want to give it up, but I cant devote as much energy to it now that I have bigger fish to fry. Any suggestions?

Can you afford a small storage space like the one next to the Home Depot superstore?

I want to get rid of all old baggage so to speak. And a transplant for me is about $250K so anything I can sell to help finance is really more the goal.

Picture of Flip Flops? Try to sell on SWAP?

Get your doctors and HC people to get you to people who can help you figure out how to manage the costs. Focus on ensuring you get the care, and figuring out the covering of it happens afterwards...Contact Cancer Care in Millburn; they are funded to provide help for the day to day of cancer care.

Thanks truegrid. Yes I'm trying on swap but the fact that its a bulk item i wondered if anyone knew of any stores that might be interested. Right now though I am focusing on decluttering so i can have my House smudged. I'm in west Orange so I'm not sure if Millburn would help? I'll look into it anyway

I see your point about selling vs. storing. Absolutely. Have you thought about talking to any of the small boutiques in Maplewood Village? I wonder if Kokoro or No. 165 would be interested at all? I know it's a bit of bother you could probably do without, especially right now.

I wonder if someone else who has an eBay or Etsy shop might be interested in taking all of those flip-flops from you. But I'm not sure how you would go about finding someone for that.

Wonderful! Her clients love her. I'm sure you will too.

maybe see if you can sell or set up a table at move in day at Seton hall dorms -- flip flops are pretty necessary for showers in dorms and allot of kids may be willing to pick up a pair??

What an awesome creative idea...thanks!!!

That is a great thought. You might be able to get all of them sold in a single afternoon on campus.
