Of course you can never get a price over the phone for these things. I was wondering about the Livingston place. Already been to Millburn and it's between 80-90 per month for one person. Their ours class/schedule are a little shorter than I'd like.
For the 80/90 per month join Can Do Fitness in Short Hills. It is an INCREDIBLE facility with an enormous range of classes - it blew me away, and membership gets you 3 free personal training sessions.
Yes, I guess I did mean New York Sports Club (NYSC). Problem with Short Hills is it's too far from my house...I'm already wasting money not going to the gym I'm paying dues at in Summit. At least Livingston is a straight shot out SO Ave, which I'm close to.
NYSC is in the same price range, though they have more locations you can use, depending on the sort of membership you get. (Springfield may be closer than Livingston.) There's a pretty extensive class schedule (you can see it at nysc.com); some classes require advance sign-up. Also, the Livingston NYSC has a pool. there's 2-week trial offer ($19.95) on the website--esp. check out the gym at the times you might use it; it's often crowded.
Prices for JCC should definitely be lower than private gyms and should be comparable to the Summit, Westfield or Livingston YMCAs. And I always thought it went without saying until someone asked it of me, so no, you don't have to be Jewish to belong. As it turns out, I'm Jewish but I prefer going to the Westfield YMCA and based on where I live the Y is only about a two-minute longer drive than the JCC and I get to stop in a Trader Joe's whenever I want to since it's basically right around the corner from the Westfield Y.
I checked out the JCC when they first re-opened; very nice gym facility, and cheaper than NYSC. But they had no classes on Saturday (because of the Sabbath), and that was the deal-breaker for me.
ril, you're correct that hours/classes are limited there on Saturday, another reason I belong to the Westfield Y, besides my belief that the Westfield Y is the most like a private gym in the area but with Y costs. However, I believe that the JCC is open and has classes Saturday afternoon just not Saturday morning. The JCC is, however, open Christmas day.
NYSC in Springfield is pretty close - I think closer than the Livingston one (I'm in SO). Its about $78/mo. I don't find a problem with it being too crowded in the morning or on weekends. Not sure about the evening hours, but no problems otherwise. Hours are very good. And you get your own tv on the treadmills!

That's why I tout the Westfield Y (where I belong). I get my own tv on the ellipticals as do those on the treadmills, the stationary bikes and the recumbent bikes. In addition I have a cool computer program for my weights in another room as well. My Y is like a private gym except for the cost. To paraphrase monster: I like.
At Cando almost all of the aerobic equipment has its own tv, and on one of the channels you can watch your kids playing in the child care room. Said room has 2 different gaming systems.
Last time I checked the JCC it was very expensive.
For some reason, because of traffic lights and traffic, Springfield is further in my mind than Livingston. Like I said, I'm VERY close to SO Ave, and there's only 2 traffic lights between me and the other side of the reservation...
Wendy, my only experience with Westfield: I drove to Westfield the other day to go to TJ's there for the first time there, and it took a long time. It's shorter and easier for us to get to Florham Park TJ's.

Any experience with the Livingston facility
