Falafel-ly Yours/My Morocco Has Great Food

Went out in So Orange with 10 people last night ranging from a college student to great Grandparents. Everyone enjoyed the food including a few vegetarians who were thrilled with so many choices. I had an authentic Moroccan dish with chicken & prunes with rice that was excellent. I recommend this restaurant!

and the owner is an awesome guy too, I order for delivery from them pretty often

I thought the people were great. I was not crazy about the food.

We love the food! Try the chicken brochette, sublime. Also love the fatoush salad, the falafel appetizer, and the desserts.

I love that place. Food is great and the owner and people who work there are fantastic.

I think their food is terrific.

We really like the place, and this thread has just reminded me we're overdue for a visit...

Their hummus is amazing.

Yes! Makes even good store-bought hummus taste like spackle.

Another fan here. The owner put together a lovely lunch for 10 for me last semester that fit a variety of dietary restrictions. And I just happened to check and see this thread on a night where we already put in for dinner from there to be delivered.

Yes Yes Yes! I always order it along with my chicken shewarma oh oh

That's a whole nice little treasure trove of restaurants along there.

I still don't get the name though.

Who cares what the name is? The people are great. The food can be terrific, though I have to admit, I've been disappointed a couple of times. I really enjoyed the evening of belly dancing too, which I did not expect.

We've always loved the food and the very nice owners, but we stopped ordering after a couple of instances of impossibly slow delivery (like 2+ hours). We'd love to give them more business if the delivery service has improved. Sounds like it has?

@inthewings, I usually do delivery from them and you're right there was a couple of instances when my food took very long to arrive, although it was on busy weekend nights and around the time they had just opened My Morocco so I was not overly surprised ... Usually I get my food 30-45 mins after I order, I'm in upper gregory, WO so not the closest to the restaurant either.

If you look at the history of posts you will see that I generally do not post negatively about local establishments and try to accentuate the positive. But, in part because I am upset, I will say that my wife and I walked out at lunch today because the falalel balls tasted off, as in spoiled off.

Did the restaurant staff offer anything to try to make it right

I always wanted to try Falafelly Yours, so my boys took me there the Saturday night before Mother's Day - the food was wonderful, the people were lovely, and the belly dancer was so patient with all the kids who wanted to dance with her! All in all a great experience.

The person in charge did offer us a free lunch. He said "its not the falafel, its the tehina". He wanted us to try a different falafel ball. But after tasting something that tasted off we politely declined because we did not want to eat anything else there.

I'm sorry, I was so excited when this place opened and I wanted to love it, but their food is not good. Anyone who's has real falafel and shawarma must agree. The shawarma platter was awful and tasted like dry meat and dry rice soaked in lemon juice. The falafel was OK, but the pita was very strange. Maybe they've improved since I last went, but I can't bring myself to go back.

Try King Falafel in Millburn or Carmel Haifa in Morris Plains. You won't be disappointed.

That being said, I haven't tried My Morocco so I have no opinion there.

The hardest thing in the world for a restaurant is to keep the food consistent. I love Falafelly Yours. The owner is such a stand up guy. Friendly, hard working and interesting. Sometimes their food does miss. I would really hate to lose the place, and hope they can get better and better.

The owner is a nice guy but I find the food inedible. It's a shame because falafel is unbelievably inexpensive to make and can form the base of a great "comfort food" restaurant. Chicken shish only requires a nice fire. Shawarma is something you can't mess up unless you are greedy. This cuisine is my preference and when I can find it much cheaper in Mayfair, and ten times as good, it reminds me the guy in SO is making zero effort on the food.

Maybe he is trying to do too much. I want the Mideastern food to be in my neighborhood. I want more variety to choose from around here, not less.

I'm with you. I think he needs to hire someone that can revamp the way he prepares the food. I'd love to frequent the establishment, but it's hard when there's such better options in neighboring towns. Unfortunately the place always looks pretty busy so he has no reasons to make any changes.

Um, that's not a bad thing.

Friday night there were only about 4 or 5 tables. That isn't enough to keep him in business. He is a pretty motivated guy. I think you have to be pretty motivated to get into CIA
