facebook login asking for documents for proof of ID?

seems fishy...anyone else?

I've definitely heard of it happening. It's not even a new thing. Here's a piece from 2013.

There are instances where if facebook thinks the account is fake or if it cannot be verified otherwise (usually by something like sending you a text and then you replying with a code), they will request an ID. Just make sure it is actually coming from then and that you're not being phished. Sometimes this happens if the name on your account does not sound like a real name or if your account has been locked.

thanks - was just reading that very thing @LL_ - just feels creepy to give ID to FB, for fear that it's not really them asking...

I would contact them independentand ask before you respond.

I got the same request on Facebook, because I use an alias there. Since I can't verify my fake name, and I don't want to give Facebook my real name, for the moment I've simply changed to a more "real"-sounding alias. I'm not concerned that the request for government documents isn't legitimate, but there's no way I'm sharing that info with Facebook

Facebook is behaving very oddly this week. I've had to log-in every time I go on FB, because it keeps telling me the page is invalid or something equally strange. As if FB doesn't exist. Yet when I enter my user name and log-in, it suddenly goes to my page.

Something strange is going on there.
