Ew Gross What is this Fungusy Thing and Will It Hurt My Wisteria?

Any ideas? It's also on the ground nearby and climbing up a rusty statue...

Slime mold. It is a fast-growing fungus that appears literally overnight.

will it harm the wisteria? is there a cure? thanks!

am googling. 'Anything that closely resembles vomit in the garden is an uncomfortable sight.'

coincidentally the same thing appeared in my yard this morning! it is in mulch near one of my trees -- I actually thought it was some animal poop!

Hmm- where do you both get your mulch from? Could it come from there?

I get mine from Home Depot -- it is the cedar mulch and always has some white moldy looking stuff, but I still always get it ..

It's on our mulch out front too. Saw it on several neighbors yards too. I know we don't all get our mulch from the same place.

must be from all the rain. glad it isn't as dastardly as it looks!

The mulch holds water, which is why (a) it helps plants retain moisture (b) it tends to grow mold. The mold/fungus will choose spots that are wet and shady, every time.

The day after I read this I saw it on my crepe myrtle. I have a row of 6 of them on the side of my yard and the last tree's flowers all have this mold on it. I never saw this before either. Good thing somebody started this discussion. Thank you ! (putting a smiley face here oh oh )
