Euchre

Looking for a few players. We are rusty and friendly. Interested?

Interested--and can host at The Elks some Friday night

I interested. Usually this is the one week of the year that I would be playing every night with my extended family, but we all got together in May for an event (with no time for Euchre), so we didn't get together this week. So, I would be very happy to play.

I call @RobinM2 as my partner

Can I be the first to ask? what the heck are you talking about

Judy, Judy, Judy...if you have to ask. oh oh Its a card game, trump based, usually played with two teams of two. Its pretty quick moving and can be fun, and social.

Does anyone remember how to play cut-throat or bid euchre? We used to play bid euchre with more than 4 players.

after playing so much euchre in college, a few of us decided to take a bridge class...the whole bidding thing took the fun out of it for us. It became more cerebral than social I guess. It was an extra layer of thinking we were capable of but not interested in ultimately.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My opinion anyway.

I truly never heard of this game. I guess this wasn't a drinking game in college. ;

Well, I'm sure you did not intend to insult anyone, but Euchre, to my knowledge, is not a "drinking game." It is a common (and popular) card game in the Midwest where my family is from. In fact, too much drink would most likely hurt your play. It is a game of strategy and luck (such as if you are randomly dealt both Bowers and are twosuited) Beer in moderation goes nicely.

Spend many many many hours playing this in the dorms at Notre Dame (although I'd have to refresh myself on the rules now). It got to the ridiculous point where we would deal the hand and then everyone would just show their cards and we'd determine who would have won -- we all could see how the hand would have played out.....that's when we knew we had gotten burnt out on it....

Im not insulted...we "did stuff" while we played. It was a good excuse to get at least four people together in a room to spend some time together and bs...and of course, while doing that, there were at times various social accoutrements.

We only played cutthroat if we had three people. As I recall, the rules were only slightly different.

First time we get together, we should have a 1/2 hour 'learn to play' session, followed by a 1/2 hour refresher/agree on the ground rules session, as I suspect there are regional variations between the upstate NY version and the Indiana version.

FWIW, the fact that Euchre was and is very popular in the part of western NY I come from is one of my main supporting arguments for western NY being in the midwestern rather than the eastern US.

I'm from rural Illinois and I learned to play Euchre during high school homeroom. I'm excited to hear that others in this area are familiar with the game.

Euchre was the only thing that kept my Michigan family from stabbing each other in our sleep... That and cow tipping.

For years my kids would not believe cow tipping was real. I taught them euchre. Cow tipping they are just going to have to take on faith.

East Coast is Hearts or Spades country, Euchre was that Bob guy who hosted game shows.

Ah, Hearts! That's what we played, but of course I remember little to nothing.

I'm in if players are needed. As an Ohioian, I am versed in Euchre and can't find anyone out here who plays. So my arms are open. LMK please

Hank, Sent you a PM

I think that's why euchre works so well in social situations like dorms. It's fun and competitive, but with fewer cards and many plays dictated for you, players can also enjoy a drink, chatter, or keep an eye on the game.
