Emergency help needed

I'm sure the moderators will bounce this if it's inappropriate for this setting, but here goes ... I have been a Maplewood resident since 2007, but now my lease is about up, my car is totaled, I'm long-term unemployed, and basically out of all but the worst options.

I've started a GoFundMe to try to finance getting my stuff out of the house and buy a vehicle to give me mobility and maybe even a place to sleep short term. I'm also trying to protect my dog - an emotional support animal - who id have to give up going to a shelter once shelter becomes available.

Yes. I have tried and exhausted every government and nonprofit option anyone has suggested the past year or so.

Thanks for reading this far. I am open to questions.

What type of van are you looking for?
I remember you were always complaining about traffic issues and bad drivers, I’m sorry to hear that your car got totaled. That sucks.

Unfortunately, after defending them, I am thinking likewise...

C'mon people, focus, FOCUS!!! This is about me, not some troll hunt! (jk lolz, just giving this thread a bump is all)

Vdfam, if I lived locally I’d have more ideas and connections. I’m on the other side of the globe, unfortunately, and have recently retired. You seem intelligent to me, so I’m not going to suggest the fairly obvious strategies you’ve probably already tried.
Truly wish you good fortune.
Folks, wasn’t there a cafe a few years ago where freelancers etc could go, catch up, work for a few hours and also talk about job openings? Is that ringing bells? Anything like still around?? confused

Thank you! I have, indeed, looked into all options. I also have experience working with people stuck in deep poverty during 10 years in Newark. This is the best path for me if I can get it done.

As far as a café, I have access to Starbucks gift cards so I went there about 3 times a week to job search and hang out around people. Kept me sane as opposed to doing it alone at home. Along the way I made connections with a handful of people who have helped a great deal, with ideas and support.

In case any of this can help.

Good resources, Joan, but limited. Surely use these first. I tried to go it alone, but it drove me to a deep, dark place. In 2020, literally 2 weeks before the world shut down, I attempted suicide. The upside of not getting it done was gaining the diagnosis, treatment and support I needed.

This included working with social workers on much of what you mention. In my case, I tapped into what I could, and there's nothing on value left. Thankfully, I'm not letting my mental illness do my thinking for me and I have support systems to help my thinking and planning. In my case, my support systems and I believe I have a good plan considering the options.

Shameless bumping of the thread after referring to itt on another.
