Driveway repave

Would love recommendations for driveway repaving. Not just a new top coat. I'm talking total redo. Thanks.

Mike Giordano is great! But he's also very popular, so I don't know if he has a wait list

Literally just had ours done (the asphalt is still cooling!) by Mellusi Paving. They've done a lot of masonry work for us over the years (sidewalks, retaining walls, staircases, Belgian block curbs) and we're always extremely happy with their professionalism & the way their work has held up over the years. We had the old driveway completely ripped up (it was original to our 1928 house) and repaved, as well as new Belgian block installed along the full length. http://www.cardinalgardencenter.net/paving.html PM me if you'd like more info.

Giordano twice promised to come for an estimate, and twice he didn't show up and didn't call. Not very professional.

Same w us. 2x a no show. Went with Essex Morris and were not disappointed. In fact he then did my sisters house and a pal down the street. 2 more satisfied customers.

same with us, although it was probably 7 years ago now.

Stamped Concrete Overlays! Nothing lasts longer and is more durable than this resurfacing technique.

that has to be a whole lot more expensive than an asphalt driveway.

I worry about what it looks like after a few years of oil drips, tire marks, etc.  (Those things sorta blend in on asphalt.)

Unfancy cement driveways were the norm where I grew up (as asphalt is here.)  If you do something different, it will be noticed ... for better or worse.

We installed concrete pavers (4x8) on our driveway. Hired a contractor to excavate the old poured slab, and to prepare the bed. We installed the (1400 sqft) pavers ourselves. Hell of a job (not hard to do, just hard work), but the result is nice. We saved about $10k in labor by doing it ourselves.

That looks fabulous.

Essex-Morris repaved for us last week. If I could do it again, I would wait for the Fall. This hot weather is keeping it tacky. They did a nice job.

It really does!!  Nice job.

I like what a neighbor did, they took out all the pavement and put in two strips made from stones and concrete. The grass grows between.

Thank you!

Now, this section is of course called "DIY Home Fix-it", so that means *you too* can do this yourself oh oh. It just takes some grunt.

The driveway is now 9 years old, and there are some tire ruts forming. The added advantage of using paving systems? You can take a section up, do what need to be done (add some base material for instance, or run a pipe, or whatever), and you can reinstall it without hauling tons of debris and then paying thousands to have it completely redone again.. so I also consider this more sustainable, and in the long run, perhaps cheaper (especially if you go DIY, which is entirely feasible as you can see).

We also are in the process of a total redo of the driveway, front steps and front walk. Already got a quote from Carmines. Johnny's masonry is coming tomorrow and Luigi's next week. Also want to call one more to get 4 quotes for the jobs. Maybe Avellino's as the 4th.

We're very happy with the job Avellino just did on our front steps and walk
