Dog Teeth Cleaning

What is the going rate for teeth cleaning for a dog?  I have a quote from my vet but it seems a little steep, considering she is already going to but put under for another procedure.

Thanks

Last time I checked, which was several years ago, it was $200.00, might be more now.

We just got a quote for $450 to start.

It's quite expensive. The final bill depends on whether extractions are needed and they can't tell until the dog is put under. The cleaning procedure takes quite a long time in some cases. So the total could be anywhere from $500-$1,000.

And if your dog is of a breed that has problems with anesthesia (pugs, boxers, pekes, frenchies), there will be extra charges for pre-anesthesia testing, probably a different type of anesthesia, and individual monitoring until the dog comes out of the anesthesia.

$300 for our dog at the South Orange Animal Hospital. He was put under and had blood work done for an additional $45.

Having gone through the expense of extractions a couple of times, I'd highly recommend trying to brush your dog's teeth regularly. Maybe they grow to tolerate it? I don't know. But I never grew to tolerate >$1000 dental bills either.

I had my dog's teeth cleaned once a few years ago. It was several hundred dollars and she wasn't herself for months afterwards. I'm not blaming the vet, perhaps the anesthesia didn't agree with her.

Her teeth were getting bad again a year or so ago and we just didn't have the money to have them cleaned again. My vet sells these enzyme Dental chews so I gave them a try. After a couple of months there was a noticeable difference in her teeth. I have been giving them to her almost daily for the last year-and-a-half and I would say that 80% of the plaque is gone. The cost of the chews may have added up over time to the cost of the procedure, but she didn't have to go under anesthesia and the money payed out in small increments was less painful. Oh, and she LOVES them. She asks for one every morning.

Just had this done for my dog with Dr. Stack last week. $188.00. No extractions and bloodworm not included in that amount.
