Dog cleanup service

Ok, I have 2 big dogs and 1 small yard. For this reason, I'd like to look into a service that will clean up after said dogs once weekly and cart the whole stanky mess away. Can anyone here point me in the right direction to a good service to use? Many thanks.

Don't have a recommendation but a google search turned up these two area services:

Doody Calls.

They are in NJ. Have seen their trucks around...

I have used In "The Line of Dooty" for a one-time, massive 3 labrador retriever, post-winter pickup. There were 10 huge bags of poop waiting for my trash guys the next day. He gave a decent quote for regular weekly pickups, but we have teens and so, nope.

From Bob Roe, Health Officer Maplewood: Sorry to intervene on this, but dog feces should be cleaned up everyday, even in your own yard. This reduces odors and flies.

And I should also take a shower every day (also reduces odors and flies) but with a three young kids in the house even that doesn't always happen. cheese

Friends of ours live next to a home with a large, large dog. The dog run is next to their dining room windows. The dog owners have a service come and clean the poop every week or 10 days..... but our friends can't keep their windows open in warm weather because of the smell - I agree that large dogs (or multiple dogs) and houses located close to each other don't mix well if the dogs are not cleaned up after at least daily. And I'm speaking as a dog owner who couldn't imagine living without our dog.

eta: The OP clarifies that they do pick up daily, just wondering where to store the waste between garbage pick-ups. The people I mentioned above just leave the waste where it lies until the service comes and picks it up, so my comments refer to that situation.

Let me briefly interject here. I clean up after the dogs daily with my handy pooper scooper, but part of the issue is not knowing where to put the mess once it's "up." No matter where It Is, It Is still downright stanky.

I sort of thought that a service would take the mess far, far away from here. As a mom I am also elbow-deep in diapers at any given time, so I am looking for someone else to get involved when it comes to dog stuff. Thanks for the recs, guys.

It should be a daily chore, sorry to say. Putting it into a small plastic bag, which you tie up, then into the trash can liner and sealing the lid to the trash can tight seems to keep the smell to a minimum, even on hot days. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/09/dog-poop-scoop-infectious-disease_n_1138618.html

Sorry if i misunderstood your first post. I think the best you can do is put it in a plastic bag and then into a covered garbage can. If household garbage is picked up twice weekly, the smell may not be too bad. As a father of three, I know about kid's diapers and I wish you the best. Maplewood and South Orange are real good towns for kids to grow up.

I have one, it didn't work for us. The soil in my back yard is weird, if we get a hard rain the water puddles on the ground, but in the doggy dooley (basically a miniature septic tank) the water wouldn't stand more than five minutes which is not enough to break down the waste. I would fill that thing to the top with the hose multiple times a day but within minutes it would be drained. I just bag it and throw it in the trash now.

That really sucks. My neighbor uses a dog clean up service once a week but it is in a regular yard, not a run where the space is limited, so it isn't concentrated in one area. I do understand close houses though, as my other neighbor is a mere four feet away (their house was built back in the 20's before the codes were changed) and every time they do laundry my entire house stinks like Downey softener. It doesn't sound that bad in theory, I"m mean it's fabric softener, how bad can it be? But it's gotten to the point that I just keep the windows on that side of the house closed.

Due to an injury, I could not bend and pick up my dogs waste. I called a couple of the pooper scooper services, but the cost was crazy for a 3 time a week pick up.

Went to a chain pet place and bought something similar to the below. Love it and easy. I attach plastic bags to the scoop and just toss.

Re: the residual odor issue, we also have a "dog run" area that stinks to high heaven, especially after rains. We made a frame area with about 10" depth of peoples on top of landscaping fabric. After 6 years, something had to be done bc although the #2 can be picked up, the #1 can't. Did a search recently and found this product which I'm looking forward to receiving. I also bought the hose-end sprayer bottle that I will refill with the gallon size. Planning to soak the stone area weekly until the odors are gone.

I imagine it could be used as needed in the garbage can you use to put the bagged doo in to control the odor between garbage collection.

Clients of Mr. Z's Dog Walking service have a tiny covered garbage can - say 2 gallons - next to the regular covered garbage can and recycling can. Every bagged deposit is stored there and the garbage pick-up takes it away every week. No dicernable odor once the lid is secured.

That's what we do. Pick it up as it's deposited, and put in designated " poop can". Of course, we are in SC now and have triple digit heat. I stand as far away as possible as I pry the lid off that can!

Since we moved to a warmer climate and our garbage can is outside our kitchen window we needed to find a solution. We've been using these for the past few months and they work like a charm. No stink garbage can and it keeps it out of the landfill. http://www.amazon.com/Flush-Puppies-Flushable-Certified-Compostable/dp/B005AN2HNU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1434935487&sr=1-1&keywords=flush+puppies

Great idea, but not much good up north as it appears the bags melt in rain and snow

I would have my doubts about flushability in our old sewer systems around here.

I am now just a little bit less enthusiastic about getting a dog. And I really miss the little green face nausea emoticon.

I have recently gotten a dog (first time in my life!) We don't have a fenced backyard, so she gets walked several times a day. Once or twice a day she poops and we pick it up in a plastic bag which gets knotted and then goes straight into a plastic bag in our outside garbage can. So far, this has worked fine. (I haven't really noticed a problem with smell, even when opening the can to put in the next deposit.)

On the occasions when I have walked other people's small dogs, I haven't noticed anything overtly gross... I guess it was the concentrated attention on this thread that made me turn a little green! LOL.

And I say this as an owner of four cats who cleans litter boxes day in, day out, so I'm not really in a position to talk. *sigh*

If you have your dog on a high quality food, the amount, and odor of waste is usually reduced. sac, I do exactly the same thing. The only time the odor has been overwhelming was when it hit 95°+ and then I just bagged everything up in the black trash can liner.

When she does something in the yard (usually at night) I try to clean it up with a shovel and a garbage bag, as soon as I can. It just is another part of responsible dog ownership.
