We have dirty water with sediment in it on Ridgewood Rd Maplewood near St Lawrence St.Water comp. is digging up st. again.Cannot drink water, will water comp. compensate me for a new water filter? They cost between $35 and $50.

I also have dirty water and live near your location. Did you call New Jersey American? Did they say when it would be corrected?

I live just above Ridgewood, off Cedar, and have NO water.

Just called...water main break on Cedar.

we still have water (dirty)

we are in the belly of the beast!

The shower water and the toilet water were downright muddy and rusty this morning, was clear by 11:00 AM though. I live in the same general area too.

Clinton school area in Maplewood. Water is slightly yellowish brown. Not horrible, but off enough that I was thankful I had filled the Brita pitcher earlier so I didn't have to drink the tap water.

Don"t you think New Jersey American Water should have told people in the area that they were working on a water main instead letting people find out themselves that their water is dirty brown and loaded with sediment!

from Robert Roe:  The brown water is almost certainly a mix of sand and rust that settles in the bottom of water mains.   Whenever a fire hydrant is opened (by the Water Company, Fire Dept.,or contractor) the flush of water can stir up this rust and sand.   This is not unhealthful, but should be avoided for drinking and laundry.   Wait till the water runs clear.

Also, every spring NJ American Water does a system wide flushing of the water mains.  They do advertise this, but the schedule can change from neighborhood to neighborhood.
