Did anyone else get an out-of-whack PSE&G EPP adjustment?

PSE&G wants $390 to bring my account up to date. This is hard to understand for a one-bedroom apartment where my typical non-summer combined gas and electric usage comes to less than $60. I'm trying to figure it out by looking at the activity history on their web site. One thing that stands out is that my electric use for November and December is about triple a normal winter (non-AC) month, and by an amazing coincidence my KWH usage for those two months is exactly the same. I have a remote-read meter and these are supposed to be actual readings.

Has anyone else had concerns about their EPP adjustment? Would anyone be willing to log in to their account and look at November and December and see if it looks normal?

A careful reading of your monthly statement for each month in the billing year should help you determine the nature and extent of the problem. Check your statements for the billing year to get a better handle on just when the under payment began. Your monthly statement should include a section which tells you whether you are operating at a debit or credit once that month's bill is paid, and by how much. Elsewhere on your statement, you should find a comparative usage chart for the three months in the current and immediate prior billing year. An "E" after any figure on this chart indicates an estimated reading. Estimated readings are possible with an outdoor meter if the meter is not accessible to the meter reader for some reason such as weather, locked area, or dense foliage.

This happened too us once after we moved into the house 10 years ago. One bill was 3 times as the last month. They said same reason. But they were going by the usage of the previous owners.

Just call PSEG and tell them how much you want to pay...They will argue a bit, but will eventually agree to change to your number. I've done it a couple of times.

I used to do the EPP and that would happen, a large bill when it was time to true up. So I took 15 months worth of bills, averaged it out and I send them a fixed amount say $X via online bill pay. In the winter I owe them, in the spring and fall I have a credit. 3 years now it's worked wonderfully. It's a $ amount I can work with, no surprises. Hth.

You should check meter for actual readings and report yourself. They have a phone number to do so.
