So sorry. Something needs to be done to make our roadways safer for everyone. In answer to your question: I haven't seen or heard anything about this accident other than what you just posted. Traffic accidents are so prevalent in our area that they are seldom reported in the media anymore.
I remember someone was killed walking on the sidewalk on that bridge years ago. People are driving way too fast all over, by the time they crest that hill it is too late to stop in time.
It might make it into the police blotter thus week.

I think about that event almost every time I drive over that bridge, and it's on my common route. The woman was found not to be distracted, but I think she must not have known the street and maybe was going a little too fast. If you actually take that street, you can see how it curves a little to the left. She just kept going straight--or at least that's my conjecture. I can't figure out how else it could have happened.

I think about it also every time I drive over that bridge. I actually have been over it a few days because of the construction closures of Scotland rd. It was just horrific.
The fact that the victim was walking on the sidewalk is what makes it so hard for me to imagine. Even if the roadway curves slightly I can't imagine how the accident could have happened unless some sort of medical issue was involved.

Joan, I think if you were just slightly distracted, the road curves to the left. If you weren't paying 100% attention, you could have gone straight. It troubles me often. I feel so sad about it when I go over the bridge. Mostly for the man who lost his life, but also for the woman who hit him who has to deal with this for the rest of her life.
At this point, we don't know what caused the accident.
I am the "safety director" of our hiking club. We also have bicyclist road rides, 2x per week from April to November.
On the Friday ride, the leader cut across the road, not at an intersection. Two riders followed him. This was followed by a sounding of a truck's highway horn.
Sometimes an accident is the fault of the driver. Other times it is the fault of the cyclist.
The above-mentioned episode will be brought up at the September club meeting.
I still haven’t seen or heard anything more definitive about this accident. So I’m not sure of any further information.
I have no reason to doubt the source of my information. I also was in downtown South Orange at the time and saw two police cars, and ambulance and the paramedics all going in that direction with sirens blaring. I don’t want to pester the person I know who witnessed the accidentfor any more information
It’s weird that there hasn’t been anything in any kind of local news source. For instance, I don’t know exactly where it happened, or which way either vehicle was traveling.
I also remember the accident from a few years ago where the pedestrian was killed. If I’m not mistaken, the metal railing that is between the sidewalk and street was put up as a result. I think it’s there to protect pedestrians on the sidewalk, but I also imagine it would make it very difficult for a cyclist to maneuver away from a car that was endangering them.
Perhaps some kind of warning sign o both sides of the bridge?

maybe something that says slow the **** down
I have amended the headline.
A “juvenile” cyclist struck a 76-year-old pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital in Newark, but was awake and alert at the scene.
The cyclist was bandaged up on the scene and released to their parent.
I reached out to The Village Green and they investigated, including speaking to the South Orange Police Chief, and learned that it was a pedestrian/cyclist incident and this is their resulting story: Here's the latest: https://villagegreennj.com/police-and-fire/pedestrian-cyclist-injured-in-collision-near-mountain-station-on-sept-3/. When I questioned them about that discrepancy, they said they also asked that question of the chief and he said that there was no car/cyclist incident.
ETA - Somehow I missed @mrincredible's similar correction post above.

thank you! I apologize for the false alarm.
I guess parents are responsible for medical payments and "pain and suffering" through their homeowner's insurance.
Bad news if they are tenants without insurance.

Someone I know witnessed a cyclist getting struck by a car on Montrose Ave. In the bridge near Mountain Station. This was around 9:30 on Tuesday morning. It was apparently very serious.
There’s nothing in any of the local news sources this morning. I’m not on most social media so I find myself at a loss for more information. Has anyone heard anything definitive?
