Cost of uber from Columbus Circle to Maplewood?

Heading in to a concert this eveningand weighing transportation options: drive in (where to park?) or train in/Uber back?

$130-$150 on the way back

That's normal pricing. We encountered surge pricing after U2 a couple of weeks ago, and we decided not to use. Price was around $200. It depends if there's a big event going on somewhere in the city that night. So you should check to see what else is going on.

Okay, driving it is...

Park at Secaucus and NJT from there -- gives you lots of train options later.

Or park at the Port Authority and take the subway.

We used Dial 7 once, it was only like 70 bucks. Not the fanciest. But on time.

ETA: Each way

I thought maybe parking way west on 57th or 58th...

Download the Best Parking app and you can get some really good parking deals. Use it all the time when driving into the city. Almost always pay less than $20 to park for a show.

I just like parking as soon as I come out of the tunnel.

FWIW I've been given Uber fares of $80-$90 from Midtown, which is the fare they're quoting right now.

I've done this trip a few times in the last several months, though to South Orange. $87 each time.

When I drive in to the city and my destination is Columbus Circle or anywhere on the UWS I drive to Port Authority and park there. Take the A train one stop to Columbus Circle and go right up the escalator to the Time Warner Center. And when you leave, you exit right out into the Lincoln Tunnel.

Why not NJ Transit and then a quick subway from there?

coming home at night or on weekends on NJT is not convenient at all. If you miss a MTD train by a couple of minutes, you're stuck in Penn waiting another hour (which always seems to be the case). when I do take NJT for a weekend event or evening event, I'm inclined to drive to Secaucus. A lot more train options during off-peak hours.

+1 for Best Parking. Even when I lived in Brooklyn used to use it all of the time whenever I had to brave midtown via car. Plus it has an option where you can see which blocks (and side of the street) you're allowed to park on for your specified time range vs no parking, metered vs free... Great app

How much does it cost to park in Secaucus? And how is the lot after dark?

$9 for 12 hours if you enter after 4. The lot is staffed by humans and well lighted, and there are people around after each train.

I think it's about $15 to park, and I've never felt unsafe even after dark. it's a wide open lot, not a garage, so there aren't many places for would-be thieves or carjackers to hide.

After 4 pm? That's a good option for evening activities.

I am also thinking about it as an alternative commuter option, but the parking is $28/day T, W, and Thurs, and $22/day on M and F. That really wouldn't be worthwhile. I wonder if there are other parking options.

Another option - take NJ Transit to Hoboken and PATH from there, and then take Uber from Hoboken on the way home. It usually costs me around $22-28 to South Orange.
