Co2 tank refills? (aka Know of any local paintball or welding supply places?) archived

My husband and i don't typically spend a whole lot on each other for Christmas, but he's gone above and beyond a few times getting me things i really really needed or wanted (new laptop, GPS, etc.). It was about time i returned the favor, so he's finally getting the kegerator he's been dreaming about since we moved into this house. We picked it up today, and i'm sure at least two other men at BJ's would've gladly traded me in for the woman they walked in with, if it meant the kegerator could come home with them too.

So the next matter of business is filling up the CO2 tank. My research tells me that paintball supply or welding supply places are the way to go, because they may not make you trade in your shiny new tank for one that's old and beaten up. Are there any of these nearby? I found a paintball place on Rt. 10, but that's actually a half-hour hike for us from the SA side of Maplewood.
No suggestions but I did get a kick out of this:

Dick's Sporting Goods on Rt. 10 fills paintball tanks.

How big of a tank does the kegerator have?

I had a kegerator in college, although we called it a keg-u-later, and my father-in-law has one that came with his house in California. I helped him get it working. I think I bought parts for him at at place in West Orange -- a refrigeration place. I don't think they did the CO2 part, but you could call them and ask about local places.

If you're looking to re-fill the CO2 canister, you might need to make the hike. Depending on your usage, it's not all that often. I think in college we went, like, once a semester or once a year. And that thing got way more use than a residential keg-u-later would.

Another interesting gift would be the different keg attachments. I know Guinness has a different hook up from American Beers. I went to college in up-state NY and the local brews used a spike tap. If we bought a "fancy" keg of Miller, we had to use another tap. Guinness is different from both.

Also, it's fun to get the different tap handles to change based on what beer is in the keg-u-later. I think the kit comes with a plain black handle, and that's just boring.

Good Luck!

Problem is, Dick's never has any CO2, or the proper "technician" isn't available (Cripes, show me to the d*mn tank, I'll do it myself). Vision Paintball on Route 10 refills, as does Taylor Rental on Springfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights. Many Taylor Rentals used to do refills, but many don't anymore. If Gas Arc in West Orange is still around, they fill tanks as well.
