Closest indoor pool for lap swimming year round archived

Just wondering if anyone knows of a pool closer than the Summit Y for lap swimming. The JCC pool is too warm and other than the Livingston New York Sports Club I don't of any I can join to swim year round. Does anyone have suggestions? Do you know if Columbia has a pool that's open for laps on a regular basis? I can't imagine it is. Seton Hall is out unless you are a student, faculty, alum, staff, etc... thanks to anyone who has current knowledge of this.
I think you are SOL, you named all the pools that I know. I don't think Columbia opens up the pool to the public, and frankly if it did I wouldn't swim there.

Orange YWCA

Montclair YMCA

Not sure of Montclair is closer to SOM than Summit but Orange is. they used to have an inexpensive lap ticket or pool only membership.
Good luck finding what you need.

Livingston Y has a pool.

I thought South Orange and Seton Hall were trying to work things out where resident could us their facilities. It would seem only fair because Seton Hall Students can use the South Orange Pool. I'm an Alum, but I haven't been on the campus in a long time.

I think it also depends where you live. From some parts of Maplewood it's closer to Livingston then Orange. And from some parts of South Orange or Maplewood Summit is closer. The Madison Y isn't that far. Just a few minutes past The Mall at Short Hills.

The West Essex Y in Livingston may be closer depending what part of town you're in. I swim there regularly, and no-one ever complained it's too warm!

Here is a list of places to swim in New Jersey. It's geared to Masters swimmers, but some have open lap times:

If it's a convenient drive, you might want to check out the pool at Drew.

I find the shallower of the JCC pools colder and more bearable, but you're right, they're both too warm.

Lifetime Fitness is opening up a location in Florham Park about a mile or so down the road from Livingston Mall. I saw the model of it at the Short Hills Mall info booth - the place is going to be huge, with both indoor and outdoor pools. Rep said it was 1k a year for a family give or take if I remember correctly, about the same as the JCC. I think it will be open 24/7 which is nice - JCC does not open till 1pm on Saturdays for those thinking about JCC...no Saturday morning swims. bummer.

The YWCA in Orange no longer has a pool. I think there was a leak a few years ago and when the lifeguard arrived one morning, there was no water in the pool. Sadly, it's not been fixed.
I live in South Orange and am able to get to the Summit Y sometimes in less than 15 minutes, using the googlemaps suggested route--78W,24N, Exit 8, left on Summit Ave, right on Broad, left on Maple.

Hey Janea - how crowded does the West Essex pool get? Hubby and I are looking into a pool for lap swimming - I hate sharing a lane with more than one person though and getting kicked in the head so I am hoping to find one that gives me some breathing room.

The Connection, in Summit, is surprisingly easy to get to, even though it's miles away.
