Clarus building updates

Thanks (I think). One, two, three ...

Nice shots. It is pretty well framed out and appears to be as tall as it will get. Disruption is less than I imagined

but the guys pound with their hammers all day long. At one point I guess they were sinking something

and the force was so strong I felt my building shaking a little. Similar to that small earthquake we had a few years ago

Heard various rumors about some established stores and services moving and others taking their place............nothing confirmed as yet so not able to report

It will be taller. The framing of the 3rd floor is not complete. Plus there will be additional stuff on the roof that goes above the 3rd floor.

Are they using pressed wood? I can't tell from these pictures, but it looks like it.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE POST OFFICE?!?

gulp

I believe so. Same stuff they used to build the large apartment building by the town pool on the NJ Transit site. But that one is 5 stories (I think).

No problem. You can buy stamps and mail packages from Starbucks or maybe the 3rd Dry Cleaner in the Village

Seems to be pressed wood

More than another story to go. I am not looking forward to the finished structure.

No. It was approved as a 3 story structure from the North (shortest) side.

It's not pressed wood. It's OSB (oriented strand board) and perfect for this application. Wood chips with glue and a mesh, and weather resistant. Doesn't warp or delaminate like plywood. I can practically see the posters above looking down their noses at the stuff, but it's the right thing to use. Modern building materials, when properly installed, are very good and make better use of natural resources.

Thank the stars........we would not want the 3rd dry cleaner, 4th bank, something like 7th coffee outlet and

20 or 30th restaurant housed in nothing but the best. The women's running clothes store............no experience

with that one.

I am hoping the sidewalk on the Maplewood Avenue side will be wide enough to return our benches previously placed in front of the building. And the real Community Bulletin board needs to be placed close by so little Mary Jones can advertise her babysitting

services and Ralph's Plumbing can do the same without asking anyone's permission to

post

I thought it would be bigger.

No...........Forgione can squeeze 20 apartments that will run in the $3000.00 area a month into that space

Add the Underground Parking Lot which was originally intended to be Kings and you have a model of efficiency

Of course I understand the parking spaces that everyone else uses will have to be reduced in size as the new

restaurant will need 3 dumpsters and an outdoor grease trap..........that was not presented to anyone originally

but what the heck. We all have to sacrifice to make the building a success

Smaller than imagined. Why aren't they using the red balloon photos as a guide?

While I am reticent to say so, I feel I must add: "Oh, no!"

They will be at the Grand Opening. It is rumored that Trump will be there also for his friend.

If that happens the Secret Service will board up the windows on my side of the building and I would so hate to

miss seeing the Grand Opening of the Friends of Donald Trump building. Hillary will not attend

Sure sounds like pressed wood to me:

Pressed wood is any engineered wood building and furniture construction material made from wood veneers, wood shavings and particles, sawdust or wood fibers bonded together with an adhesive under heat and pressure.

Nodbody who builds anything uses the term 'pressed wood'.

No idea as to the material but they are moving quickly with it. Only seems to be about half a dozen with hand tools

but there are heavy earth moving vehicles on the other side of me that are in use.

You can google from your desk all day. I've been working with building materials for 30 years. It is called OSB.

There are a few more feet of height to be added before it's completed, but Jamie's photos show that the developer's renderings were pretty spot on regarding the estimated height and mass of the building.

Or you can walk down to the relocated post office near Able Baker....Wells Fargo... there

I was never happy with the idea of the building. I felt there were so many other uses that could have done so much more for the town through clever rehabbing. That we turned down the services of a world class architect to run with

the architect who worked on The Station House is beyond a shame.

One unexpected benefit though.............much of the view from the Village Coffee building is taken up now by the new

building..............sun and light obstructed. However later in the day when the sun has crossed over both buildings,

the sun reflects back on the new one and throws some secondary sunlight on the Village Coffee apartments

My parakeets have told me this makes them happy

Thanks for clarifying that! grin

Fake news, Maplewood edition.

Hardly . He appeared at Columbia High along with another noted architect. Hid subsequent talks with them went

nowhere. I don't have a subscription to the Village Green but will research else where
