Car Dealers collusion

I purchased a used Dodge minivan, and was interested in adding a roof carrier.  The place where I bought it could not do it, so I contacted two Dodge dealers (Salerno Duane in Summit, and Nielsen Dodge in East Hanover).

Summit quoted within 24 hours.  East Hanover never quoted, despite 3 requests over 10 days.  I have to assume that East Hanover looked at the zip code, and declined to quote due to Salerno Duane being closer.

Who should something like this be reported to?

To me this is just evidence of a responsive vs unresponsive dealer

Plenty of people from here buy vehicles in East Hanover and much further away.

You might also take a drive over to Chrysler on 22 to get a cost

Or save zillions and get an aftermarket rack.

Dealers make a killing on installed parts. I HIGHLY doubt there's any collusion going on at all.  And if it's a factory rack/carrier, the prices and labor are pretty much close to standard (at least with the makes I'm familiar with, though Dodge isn't one of them).

Interestingly, BMW's rack is cheaper than Thule's (and I think Thule makes it for them).  Shocked by that when I costed them out, especially with the notoriously high BMW markup.

I'm not an attorney general, but I think that to prove collusion, you're going to need more of a case than "they didn't call me back."

Maybe they knew what you were quoted by Salerno and knew they couldn't beat it?
