Call the Midwife returns - Sunday April 3rd

Season 5 - 8:00 pm

DVR set. Mrs Incredible is a fan.

I need to find this on Netflix or wherever and catch up!

Thanks for the tip!  I was so deeply moved by the series that I read all three of the books written by Jennifer Worth, upon which the series is based.  They are just as compelling. "Call the Midwife" made me cry like a baby.

I read the books at some point but haven't ever seen the series.  It's definitely on my list though.

we've just watched it. BRILLIANT!  smile

This Sunday Grantchester and Mr. Selfridge return at 9 and 10 o'clock.

I loved this bit, done a couple of years ago.

Thanks for posting...I love it!

Anyone still watching? The stories have been powerful.

I love the series. It is almost always a tearjerker, but I do love it.

just watched for the first time... The typhoid episode. Great show!

Peggy, the season or the series?

(I quoted you but it didn't show)

I don't understand the question...  smirk

you said you hadn't watched it before. oh oh

Right, but I don't understand what you are asking about the one episode I did see... sorry, I'm very sleep-deprived after two days on Long Island closing on the sale of my parents' house.

Peggy it wasn't clear if you had never, ever watched any of the series before. Your earlier statement seemed a bit ambiguous to us readers. Whether or not you meant you were seeing the typhoid episode for the first time...or, any of the show. It is a great series. But was happy to see the satire posted earlier...because it does have a lot of hardship and sadness and earnestness to it. (BTW I prefer earnestness to the dark cynicism and paranoia that seems to permeate so much TV and movies these days)

Well, my confusion came from the use of the words "season" and "series." I meant to say I had only seen the one episode, and to that neither season nor series seemed to apply. So I wasn't sure where I was.

I can't believe we are already in Season 5. A bunch of change in the characters. But for all its heaviness, it is about love and good heartedness and I feel our world is in short supply of that these days.

I read that Miranda Hart (Chummy) is returning to the show next year.  I don't remember what reason the show gave for Chummy's absence.  Anyone know?

Chummy left to work elsewhere..a maternity home or such.

Her presence leaves a big hole in the story. Every time her hubby shows up...especially at the funeral procession.

gerryl, yes - seeing her husband reminded me again of her absence.

I haven't seen Chummy yet so can't miss her, but it broke my heart when Sister Evangelina died. I went right back to my mother's last days and cried like a baby.
