Burger King on Springfield Ave

Is the Burger King closing?

There was a sign out in front of the store that said it was closed for renovations.

Putting in a drivethru?

the town would never allow a drive thru. plus the one in hillside the food is getting worse.

God I hope not, first the Taco Bell in Springfield closed, and now this...

really, I thought they just renovated about 6-7 years ago.....i've seen a couple other BKs being renovated..but they keep the drive through open..which maplewood can't do...

they should do a carside delivery!

What does the town have against a drive thru?

On the south side of the avenue near Oberlin.

That Burger King has been there so long there are probably fossils buried under the black top in the parking lot.

I remember taking my then little girl, who now has three little ones of her own, to a Birthday party there.
It was during one of the energy crises of the late 1970's. The temperature inside must have been set at
50 degrees. The parents died but the kids did not seem to mind.

In all likely hood, it is a normal thing and will re-open quickly.

Most franchises of this type have a rip and remodel requirement. My store is on a 5 year touch up and a 10 year rip program.

Two years ago the Dunkin Donut next to me in South Orange was closed for 4 weeks thru the Holiday season due to a 100% rip and remodel.

My The UPS Store is scheduled to close and be gutted for a remodel in 2019.

Early this year, (my 5 year mark since I opened), very late at night I had all my computers and credit card systems removed and replaced, three cabinets taken apart and the Formica replaced due to chips or scratches, most ceiling tiles replaced due to condensation drip stains and some carpet repairs. I have to do touch up re-paint every year.

So, it can be kinda normal.

Later,
The UPS Store
George

My question is, when can we have a drive through Starbucks?

Drive-thru's can be noisy and add pollution from the idling cars.

In addition to increased traffic due to more cars exiting and entering the roadway and reduced safety for pedestrians on the sidewalks around the drive thrus.

Not So Fast, Willie?

I haven't been past this area in a month or two.  Is it still closed?

Yes they're open.

They never closed.  My last visit was thru a side door.

I don't think there is room for a drive-thru at that site.

Aren't drive thru restaurants banned in Maplewood?  The only drive-thru I know of is the Walgreens on SA.

It's an excellent BK with a fine, attentive staff. The prices to feed your kids are one-half, or less, those at the McDonalds on Northfield, which is a ridiculous drive away.

If you really want McDonalds, the one at the Parkway rest area is only about a 10-minute drive from much of Maplewood. (Off Vauxhall road, no Parkway driving required.)  I don't know what it's like inside now, but when my kids were little I used to take them there sometimes to play in the play space and I could read and eat breakfast.

There is an ordinance that effectively bans fast food restaurants. (I believe that the BK predates it and is grandfathered.)  But I'm not aware of a specific ban on drive-thrus. It just isn't practical on most sites in town because of space limitations.
