Borgata Restaurants archived

I'm going to the Borgata to celebrate my birthday in November and have been told to choose whichever restaurant I want. Has anyone been to Specchio, Ombra, Suilan or SeaBlue? I know there are others there, but I'm not a big steak eater, and I believe that is the main cuisine of Bobby Flay's restaurant and Old Homestead. I've already heard that Wolfgang Puck's restaurant isn't so great, so I eliminated that one too.

Any suggestions/comments/experiences?

Yes, Atlantic City, sorry I wasn't more specific.

anyone?

I highly recommend Suilan. It is unbelievably good. It is the same owner as the acclaimed Susanna Foo's in Philly.

About a year ago my wife and I went to Specchio. Had a great meal, service was wonderful, and the price was reasonable - in line with what you'd expect to pay for such a dining experience.

I have yet to try the other restaurants at The Borgata, so unfortunately I cannot compare/contrast to the rest.

Bobby's Flay's restaurants are good, but nothing spectacular. I unfortunately have not had a chance to try the other ones, but they are all good.

We have eaten at Old Homestead several times (we were just there 2 weeks ago) and love it. Always a great meal...very consistent. We had dinner at Bobby Flay Steak a week after it opened and liked it there too...but still favor OH.

By the way, there are LOTS of other options at Bobby Flay besides steak. Check online...you may find a menu. He does a lot with lobster.

I've heard good things about Suilan and Sea Blue but haven't been to either yet.

Thanks for the feedback so far... mc0218, the only reason I ruled out Bobby Flay is that we've been to one of his restauranta in NYC (mesa) and loved it, but I'm always looking for something good.

So far I think I'm leaning towards Ombra... I like the idea of dining in a wine cellar, but my mind isn't made up and I still have plenty of time before I have to make reservations.

Ombra is excellent and is our favorite when compares to Sullian and Specchio. The ambiance in the wine cellar is great and it isn't too ridiculously expensive.

Thanks connied76... Now I'm REALLY leaning towards there!

And I didn't mean to say Mesa wasn't good in my previous post, it should have came out, "I'm always looking for something different!

I can tell you where not to go.....The new Wolfgang Puck place....it is bad. I mean really pricey and small portions of very (too) rich food. Go for Ombra.

I just heard of this place. Could be good for lunch:

Yea, I heard his place was no good... I'm still up in the air about it with less than two weeks to decide. I really like the idea of Ombra, the wine cellar, but the menu doesn't grab me. Suilan's menu is totally my taste, but I'm going to a similiar restaurant with my family a few days before in Madison (Soho 33). I might just have to put the names in a hat and choose.

Thanks for the link to the White House Sub Shop, excellent lunch suggestion before we head back up home!

Better pick or at least make multiple reservations. Two weeks out and those restaurants are usually full with only 5pm and 11pm times available! There is a new mall off of Caesar's resort- it's called The Pier I believe and you can access it through the caesar's casino website. They have a whole set of new restaurants just opened or opening Nov 1st, I think. One called Rum Jungle is a great one that we visited in Vegas- great Rum drinks, fun atmosphere, brazilian food. Not sure what else is there but I remember reading about some big name chefs going in there. Also, The Trop has the Latin Quarter with some good restaurants as well. There is a PF Changs in there wheich is fun (decent not great food but great drinks) and there is a dessert place called Brulee, I believe. With a three course dessert menu that is to die for! That it, if you don't have to stick in the Borgata.

I haven't been to the Borgata but I've eaten at SeaBlue in Las Vegas and it's good as are most of Michael Mina's restaurants.
