BOE Candidates Declare for November Election - 3 Incumbents Opt Not to Run

There are three new candidates for three open positions this fall.

Shayna Sackett-Gable, Liz Callahan, and Will Meyer.

Johanna Wright, Elizabeth Malespina, and Courtney Winkfield opted not to run again.

I'm relieved that Malespina has decided to move on.

Three candidates have filed to run for South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education. Election day is Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Terms are for three years; winning candidates will be sworn in in January 2024.

Johanna Wright was appointed to fill out the term of a member who resigned. She had not run in the last election when her term was expiring, so I don't think there was much expectation that she was going to get back into campaigning after having given it up.

If there's ever been a thankless volunteer job, it's a seat on the BOE.

I agree.  Especially since it is an advisory situation and not a policy one
