Black puppy on loose. Hit on Jefferson

Black lab-type puppy with royal blue collar.

Ran into Jefferson where he was hit by van. Rolled under and then ran back towards Maplewood Ave.

Please be on the lookout. Police and several drivers were searching but lost track if him in backyards.

Not sure extent of injuries.

This is why I am so opposed to off-leash dogs. I hope the dog's injuries are minor and that he can be caught soon.

I don't see how a loose puppy has anything to do with being "off-leash" which is a choice by an owner. More reasonably would be that the puppy got away from his property - perhaps by jumping a fence or scooting out the door. I hope he's okay and I hope the owner finds him.

Bump.

I hope they find the puppy soon and it is ok.

ffof, no matter what the reason for the puppy's running loose, the truth is that it is off leash and not under the control of its owner.

yes, it was not on a leash. But Joan bringing up that she was opposed to off-leash dogs made it sound like the owner, by choice, had her/his dog off-leash.

I would bet that this case was an accident.

Any update? Poor baby. If I were home I would be out looking.

This has haunted me all day. I went back and drove around for a bit hoping to see him around 1:00-ish.

He has to be *somewhere* in the vicinity of Jefferson/Maplewood/Woodland Aves. If he was injured, he could not have gone far.

Please, please check your yards if you live in that area.

There were a number of folks who came out of thier homes and were looking. The police also helped but the pup shot off.

Someone must be worried sick. This poor pup.

Van did not stop either. It happened so fast.

I am sorry if you misinterpreted my earlier post. it was not my intent to be critical of the dog's human companion(s). Rather to reflect on the fact that the dog was running loose. Sadly, I have witnessed off leash dogs on more than one occasion running out into the street (once on Oakview by Memorial Park and once on Baker in front of Arturos). In the first case the dog was hit by a car as the owner called to the dog to come back to her. In the second case several passersby ran into the street to try and catch the dog while the owner looked on helplessly. Fortunately for the dog, in the second instance traffic stopped in both directions until the unharmed dog was caught.

Puppy is home with his owners and has been to vet. He seems to be more shaken and scared than anything else(few cuts), but is under careful watch of his "mom". The puppy lives at a home close by to Jefferson where he was hit and has a fenced yard and is always walked on a leash. Unfortunately, he escaped. The family says thank you for the initial post because they were not sure what happened when he returned to the house with a cut. Knowing he was hit - they rushed him to the vet.

Oh, SO relieved to hear this! Give the little pup a snuggle for me. What a tough little cookie! So happy this had a happy ending.

Thanks for the update!

I have been following this thread all day, always afraid to open it for fear of sad news. So happy to hear pup is back home, went to vet, and is seemingly okay, except for the cut and being shaken.

Good news that the pup is back and relatively unharmed.

That is very good news.

Very relieved. But no dog, especially a puppy, should EVER be unattended in a yard, fully fenced or not. Play with your dog and puppies, and don't think that they can take care of themselves. because they can't.

So relieved that the dog is home safe. Glad that the dog has been seen by the vet and is essentially ok.

Very glad for a happy ending!

So relieved! I will say that even when the dog is attended full time in a fenced yard, mistakes can happen. lets all try not to condemn the owners without knowing the whole story.
