Best way to get to SoHo on a Friday morning

I need to get to 6th Ave. between Grand and Watts by 9:30 on a Friday morning. Penn Station to 1 train? Hoboken to World Trade PATH and walk? Hoboken to 9th St. PATH and walk? Helicopter?

Either way, Penn Station or Path. I'd probably just go to Penn Station and take the A express to Canal, then walk north a few blocks.

8 am to Penn from the center track in Maplewood, then the 1 subway to Canal, walk to Watts. 

Or 8:15 to South Orange, 8:24 SO to Penn, 1 to Canal.

Thanks, apple and j_r. It's been a (blessed) while since I've been in Penn Station; do both subway lines have entrances from inside, or do I need to go outside? Even when I commuted through Penn, I generally walked from there, so can't recall the subway arrangements.

Yes, you can get either subway from inside lower level - A at the western 8th avenue side, closer to 33rd/34th, the 1 on the 7th avenue (eastern) side of the station, also towards 33rd/34th
