Bed bugs in Maplewood archived

Has anyone in Maplewood or nearby successfully treated bed bugs and can recommend an exterminator? We are not sure if we have them, and Buckingham Pest company searched our house and told us they could find no evidence whatsoever, to the point of not recommending treatment, but we did find one (and we are sure it was a bed bug) on my son. We are debating whether to find a company that uses sniffing dogs to reassure ourselves. Any recommendations would be appreciated, including reassurance about Buckingham, a company we have trusted 100% for other issues.
Are you sure your son picked up the bed bug at home? If not, you may want to determine the source to prevent further infestation.

I don't understand - you found one and are sure of it but aren't sure you have them?

Your son could have picked up a lone bedbug anywhere. Have you seen bite marks on anyone in the household? If not, I think you can let the pest company's evaluation ease your mind.

This thread makes me itch

A family member used a company that had bug sniffing dogs. It worked out very well because they were able to take care of it while they only had about 3 or 4 of the bugs in the house, taking care of it early is much preferable. She is not local, so no help there, but I do recommend hiring a company with bug sniffing dogs if you can find on in this area.

What does Jerry Buckingham say about the bug that you found?

you can pick up bedbugs anywhere. doesn't mean you have an infestation. there's a bedbug hysteria on the news right now. I found a bedbug in my bed, had biteson my legs I I think they were bedbug bites but really not sure), so I washed the linens, steam cleaned the mattress and boxspring, which are under 2 years old. I suspect a recent trip to a tourist class hotel may be the culprit fo me, but if your bug guyfound no evidence, then maybe what you found was a tick they do look similar.

picking up bedbugs (especially a female) + not doing anything about it (and if you did indeed have a bedbug, then you were lucky that washing your linens and steam cleaning your mattress and boxspring were sufficient) = an infestation pretty quickly. Anyone who has been through it knows that the hysteria is justified.

sorry i didn't check between its legs.

although when I picked it up it did start complaining almost immediately. so i'm thinking it was a female.

The bedbug on my son was confirmed by Buckingham to be a bedbug (we saved it), but he found no other evidence. We can certainly look for a company with the dogs. I feel rather hysterical about it indeed, but I do have to wonder if stories like Walter Sobchak's are not perfectly common, you just don't hear about them. It is perfectly possible that he brought the lone bug into the house, as we were away last weekend but boy do I wish I was 100% sure. Buckingham left behind some little cups which go in the legs of the bed to catch any which might crawl towards the bed, but that doesn't seem to make much sense to me given that they are more likely to be within the bed itself.

They are not necessarily going to be on the bed (check other thread). The cups are useful traps. Was this in your house? Did he have bites?

Well, we have the cups in place, and will buy the mattress covers as well. My son did not have bites but had brushed it off him, in his bed...

We used Jerry who proved we did not have bedbugs. We actually had flease from a squirrel in the attic. He put sticky tape under the leg of each bed, and when whoever it was tried to get us, they got stuck. We caught fleas! The bedbugs live in little cracks near the bed, so you would catch them in the cups or tape. This was 2 years ago, and Jerry was right.
