Bear at the Library

A black bear takes a nap after being coaxed out of a tree in front of the Hilton Branch this morning by officers of Maplewood fire, police, and animal control.

He ain't got no library card? He ain't takin' out no books. That's why the cops was called.

I was expecting this guy checking out suburban survival guides.

There was a bear with three cubs this morning in Short Hills right by the Deerfield school.

OMG ~ what did they do with the bear after he woke up ?  I have never heard of or seen a bear in Maplewood.  

Bear Burgers are the special at CODA today.

2. Hand him a tax bill?

We have had bears wander into town before.  The one up the tree in Golf Island comes to mind.  There should be a thread about that bear sighting in the archives.

I only started reading/participating on MOL a couple of years ago.  I never knew it existed until I stumbled upon it one day.  I love MOL !  I have lived here 50 years (since I was a baby).  I just never remember hearing about it, or maybe it wasn't close enough for me to think about like this one was.

Can I give him a gun? Or don't I have a right to arm bears?

A few years ago I was up in Ogdensburg NJ and saw a bear.  I was in the house and the bear came right by the patio doors and hung around in the back yard for a while.  Up close and scary.  But also interesting at the same time.
