Basement flooding from outside -- who can I call?

The basement of our new house floods when it rains. It's clearly coming from outside. We had a plumber check it out and he said the ground under our deck slopes towards a certain part of the back wall, funneling the water towards the house. 

Who do we call to fix this? Can the water be diverted? And can the house be better sealed so the water doesn't come in?

It sounds like you need to have that area of your property regraded.  Landscapers do this type of work.  We used Anthony's Landscaping when we had our driveway redone.  

ETA - Surface water can be diverted.  I'd focus on diverting the water first, prior to sealing the basement.

Deborahg, several years ago I had the same problem. I had a landscape architect regrade everything, I had new Bilco doors installed, I had a "water expert" who came highly recommended (who later invaded my home----but that is another story,better forgotten) and told me the house needed to be "strapped" and it was going to cost in the neighborhood of $50K.

This is so helpful. We definitely have this problem and will call him!

However...I am embarrassed to admit that today's issue was different. I discovered that a box on the side of the cooling unit was unplugged and water was streaming out of it. Plugged in the box and the water stopped. 

Here's the culprit:

That box is a condensate collection unit with a pump.

It collects drain water from the ex changer unit it is attached to and pumps it up grade thru a hose to a drain.

Running you A/C already?

I am and that explains it! 

I work at home so definitely need that cool air...

We used Gregory Waterproofing years ago, when I believe there was a different owner. The waterproofing did NOT work. We used Avellino to re-waterproof when we re-refinished out basement and so far, so good—although it has yet to be tested by a major storm.

Re grading is also something I need to do but I did hv French drains put in about 10 yrs ago.  We used Vulcan.  I actually just replaced the sump pump.....good luck! JL

We spent $1000 and extended all gutters to the street (Gregory Waterproofing) and havent had a drop of water in the basement since.
