Banned List

How does one find out who has been banned? How long do users get banned for? Is there a set policy on why they get banned? Who can one reach out to for more info? My friend was recently banned.....

Denniss, a friend of mine who was a poster on here. We went to school together and he and his wife were key in getting me to check out Maplewood (and move here)

1. Look up their user name. They will be either a Citizen or banned.
2. As long as Jamie or Dave feels it's necessary.
3. Nope.
4. Jamie or Dave.
5. Oops.

No problem...Just a "tweak" at what is often a euphemism for "I". Welcome to the community.

Oh well... good to know. His problem I guess.

For a second there I thought denniss was your banned friend.

Probably Roundhouse then.

You should still be able to PM your friend. Also, your friend might create a new account. It's been known to happen.

Back in the olden days, you could search MOL and get a list of everyone who was banned. That was handy.

Thanks Kt, I've emailed with him and he said he can't get into his account at all, it blocks him at the password.

Actually as to number 1 there is another category. Of course I cannot think of what it is but it has to do with if you made a monetary contribution, seriously, to MOL. Maybe sponsor or something like that.

Care to tell us his user name so we can look him up and see what he did to get banned? :-D

I'm going to guess it's techman/FFB (I assume they're the same person), who was posting all sorts of silliness in the post office threads.

I think there is some clarification to #3:
A personal attack on another poster, or a threat, will usually get someone banned (Ok to attack the content, but not the person.). But sometimes bannings occur for other reasons (e.g., trolling, using MOL to direct traffic to your own site even after being asked not to, etc.).

Oh, and the Politics section seems a bit more lenient than other sections. (i.e., The kids get to roughhouse a bit more in there.)

But there is no longer a list of user names is there? IOW, I recall in the past you could click on a list of all users or search for a particular user. Now, I think the only way to find out a person's status is to search that poster's name and find a comment that person made and click on that person's name to see their status that way. Am I correct?

Are the bans usually for a certain period of time eg. a week, a month, FOREVVVEERRRRRRRR

It depends...

You can get tapped by the ban hammer, or you can get crushed by it.

Just register a new username and move on.

Cheaters never win. ;-)

I think if I ever found myself losing control enough on maple it online to get banned, I should probably move on completely. Meaning it's time to leave the whole thing behind.

techman should be known to several... it was obvious from the start who he was. I haven't thought about FFB in relation, though my initial response is to say no.

Since the demo here skews a little...mature...I've always figured that was the purpose of such an easily circumvented banning.

"Hmm, I'm 41 years old and just got banned from a local message board after calling my neighbor a hopeless ***** for asking me to not park in the crosswalk at the local elementary school. Maybe it's time for me to make a few changes in my life."

if I want to find out usernames and know what the first letter or two is, I go into the inbox and start a pm and type those letters. It pops up a list of names and I can usually find what I'm looking for. Then I exit out, rather than sending the PM. It isn't elegant, but it usually works.

Re #3 - There is a set of rules posted somewhere. Whether or not they are administered evenly is a matter of dispute at times, but this is @Dave and @Jamie's playground so they ultimately make the rules and enforce them. Most of us more or less know the rules because they get discussed from time to time when someone crosses a line. I can't find that list right now, but I assume that when new users sign up they are told about it. Perhaps it should be made "sticky"??

Well, they seemed to appear around the same time and were posting similar stuff in the same threads as each other, and then they got banned at the same time. Seemed suspicious. But I have no idea who techman is, so I defer to your more-informed take.

My Galaxy S3 has the strangest interactions with forum postings. It does weird repeating of text.

The funny thing is, per his telling of it, is that he did not do anything wrong other than post to some threads with some frequency and with high engagement. No profanity, no personal attacks and nothing trolling or shady. No explanation given. As I'm on here as well, I was asked to clarify.
