Backyard birdwatching: northern flicker

For the past two or three days a northern flicker has been visiting our backyard, usually in the company of a flock of starlings and a bluejay or two. Large, placid bird that uses its beak to dig through the grass. Had never seen one before in this area. Couldn't get close enough to snap a picture or determine if it's male or female, but it's always so cool to see someone new in the area. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Flicker/id

Males have the (black) mustache in these parts. Makes them more obvious. About a year (two?) ago, I had seven in my backyard. I love them, but all I could think of is that I must have grubs in my lawn.
