Asian Food Market

Anyone know of one around here. Preferably Korean but not a deal breaker.

Kan Man Foods (a giant market with prepared food as well) on Route 10 in Home Depot shopping center..

H mart is a korean market, I think. Kam man on 10 has korean foods. Not sure if the new market in Springfield on Morris ave is open yet.

Kam Man also has good take-out steam dumplings, and that Korean soup lunchonette (I think it's Korean). Gotta go back there myself...

No, the new market on Morris Avenue isn't open yet -- I went there the other day and there are "new management" signs on the window but it doesn't look like much is being done inside. Also signs on the window that says they sell kosher foods. I don't know if that was from the previous owners of the store or not, but it was puzzling, despite the new sign at the top of the building.

The closest H Mart is I think in Edison.

+1 for Kan Man on rt10 is pretty big with lots of products and pretty close to drive there from our area.

There's an HMart in Little Ferry. Near river st and 46.

I've been there with a friend who swears by this chain of markets. Yes, I emptied out my wallet with several bags worth of food.

Any idea if they sell fresh edamame pods?

Mitsuwa in edgewater. I've been told its like stepping into japan. I try to get there once a month. Its a little bit of a hike

that place is awesome, i had one of the best ramens ever at santouka

Mitsuwa is an amazing place...you walk around and just want to buy everything.

The last time I was there (eons ago) I spent a small fortune for salmon roe (which I haven't found anywhere since). Yum!

I think you can buy salmon roe at WF in small jars.

The H-Mart in Edison (closer to HIghland Park) is amazing! Fantastic fresh produce and fish.

What dept. in Whole Foods, do you know? Definitely not in the fresh fish dept. I've asked.

In the area where they have the smoked fish near the fish dept (at least in Union). Not sure if WO carries it.

Thanks -- I'll look when I'm there next week.

The H Mart in Edison is the largest and cleanest of the other H Marts in NJ with many food samples available and a terrific food court too.  If you like Korean skin care and makeup, the have an excellent selection.  The Gold Valley in Springfield is smaller with a good selection.  Recently the hot section  opened with excellent banh MI and buns from Grand Bakery in Chinatown in NYC.

Oh, no, do they have red bean buns? Those are my downfall.

Not nearby but if you commute to the city there is a Korean Grocery a block and a half from Penn Station. 32nd between 6th and 5th. South side, mid block.

Gold Valley Supermarket in Springfield...

Went Mitsuwa yesterday.  What a fun treat!

It was packed!  But everyone was more than polite and nice about it.  I had Ramen for the first time, and it was very good, my friend had tempura and enjoyed that as well.  The supermarket was pretty much wiped out, but I was still able to get Yuzu Citrus, Diakon, shisho leaves and some other fresh herbs.  The fresh fish and seafood selection for sushi grade and non-sushi grade was astounding and beautiful.  Next time I will bring a cooler for my car for sushi grade fish.  I bought some roasted Yellow Tail Collars/necks that I enjoyed for lunch today.

Waygu beef was available at 64.99 a lb, tofu $.99 a box.

I will be going back

Was there yesterday.  They do have red bean buns.

Thanks, dianaid. I'm definitely going to have to get back over there. I'm due for a few other items as well, and will treat myself to a red bean bun. : - )
