Are Billboards Alllowed?

In Maplewood? I was driving on Prospect St and noticing all the beautiful flowering tree and bulbs. Maplewood is so beautiful in the spring When I stopped at the light on Springfield Ave and Prospect St I noticed a billboard on top of the pharmacy store.Maybe it's always been there but I don't think so. It's really out of keeping with Maplewood. By the way the sign says we buy ugly houses.com. Is this new and are these signs allowed on Springfield Ave?

i noticed it about 6 months ago.  It is not too conspicuous...ya gotta look for it. I am surprised anyone pays to advertise on it.

I've seen it.  Fugly.  Surprised the SAP doesn't have something preventing this.

according to google, it has been there as far back as 2007 and maybe beyond

There is one also on Burnett Avenue directly across from Walgreens above the few small shops next to Wooley's.

The billboard at Springfield Ave and Prospect St has been there for a few years at least.

I've lived here all my life and somehow I missed it. Guess it was the message that got me. Also it's not a county road anymore so I would think the town would have more of a say.

Put in a service request query [on the town website] and see what reply you get.  I can't believe the town doesn't know it is there.  According to my reading of the town's municipal ordinances, billboards are not a permitted use but this one could have been grandfathered in, especially if it predates the town taking over SA, or a variance could have been issued.
