AP Night at CHS, links to information

Can anyone provide a link to information about enrolling in AP courses at the high school? Looking in particular for dates for tests and other methods of securing a spot in an AP class.

I assume the new Access and Equity policy of open enrollment is going to apply to AP classes. In other words, I think they will be removing restrictions/applications/tests for enrollment.

I'm not sure of the status of the district plans for implementing the new policy. I think they are in progress -- but would be interested if anything has been presented yet.

There is usually an evening program for parents and students about the AP program.  I'm not sure of the timing, but you might want to try to find out when that is scheduled and attend if it has not already happened.

It was last week. Here's the invite, which also has good info/a list of the APs offered.

ETA Sorry, that didn't work. Here's a screenshot.

I believe AP Chem and AP Physics still have tests.  They are not qualification tests.  Rather they are called readiness indicators or something like that.  The test will be included with other factors is figuring out readiness for course.  That said, I believe the tests were yesterday. If you were unaware of the dates of the tests, you can ask the dept. if they can reschedule for your child.

Not sure if AP Stats still has a test.

It is my understanding that parents can request that their child participate in any course, including AP, even if they did not take or did poorly on the tests.  I'm not sure what "tests" the District uses, but I would not trust any home grown products, it has been my experience, such tests were designed to identify only as many students as they planned -- in advance -- to have in each AP class, without regard to a student's actual potential for success in an AP class. Instead, if your child has taken the PSAT, the College Board has an "AP Potential" product, the school can access to give you information.  Google AP Potential and ask your guidance counselor to run it for you.  But again, don't use it to discourage a highly motivated child.

Our district pays for and administers the PSAT to ALL 9th and 10th graders, partially to identify students capable of higher level courses who may not be inclined to take them.

It's my experience that the high school has been trying various strategies to increase, not limit, the number of students in AP classes.

The link to the presentations from AP night w other info about academic placement:

And thanks to the commenters above on my initial post.

Sorry got the years mixed -up.  Thanks for clarifying.

Still a good thing (I think) to have two years of additional testing info besides in-house tests and teacher recommendation to help guide students.
