Any received a typhoid shot or oral? Side effects?

My son requires one and wondering if there are side effects to it where he could possibly become nauseous and miss school?

I had one a few years ago, the only side effect I had was a sore arm, but that was just me. I guess he could have other side effects, what does his doctor say?

I don't know if things have gotten better, but when I had a typhoid shot in the Army in 1977, I recall feeling pretty lousy (fever) that night. I think I was OK the next day.

There was one shot I got where I had a fever that night. I felt fine the next day. It was probably the typhoid shot. If I had a serious side effect I would probably remember which shot it was. Sorry, your son probably won't get to miss school the next day.

LOL! I don't want him to miss school the next day. He would be okay with it, of course.

His doc said that although there could be side effects of nausea and headaches, a very sore arm is probably what will happen.

I got one as an adult in preparation for a trip to Africa (2011). I don't recall any side effects aside from a sore arm. Since I've had both Malaria and Typhoid as a growing child, I was more than ready as an adult to pre-empt it, so that helped.

I was vaccinated ~2 years ago. Arm was a little sore and I had a slight headache but went to work the next day.

I received the oral typhoid vaccine back in 2007. It was a couple of pills that had to be refrigerated and you took them on some sort of schedule, I think every second or third day. I had no side effects. My local pharmacy was able to order it for me with a script from my doctor.

Taking him to a local travel center recommended by his physician. I believe the dose will be a shot but the RN also said oral was available if necessary. Dr. Gruenwald's office doesn't dispense typhoid or Japanese encephalitis.

Same here - no side effects

If the travel is one time, either will work. But if there may be repeated travel the oral vaccine actually lasts longer than the shot.

One time travel; receiving it this afternoon. Will follow up...

Really? I had no idea the oral dose lasted longer. Could've avoided some shots, I got almost 6 when I was traveling.

Shot lasts about 2 years, the oral version lasts about 5 years. Both are about equally effective in preventing typhoid.

Also, just because a vaccine is on the travel list doesn't mean you need that vaccine. I printed out the recommended list before traveling and hepatitis b was on that list. My doc said that unless I was going to be doing some serious partying while on vacation, I didn't need that one.

No side effects from the shot. Not even a sore arm.
