Any familiarity with these therapists?

I am looking for a therapist that works with kids 6-12 and also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  I have already spoken with my Insurance company about in-network providers.  It leaves me with the following list.  I was researching them but wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with any of them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. Wanda Myers
  2. Latia Doctry
  3. Betty Brenner
  4. Barry Mitchell
  5. Jami Messina
  6. James Schroeder

Barry Mitchell is excellent, but he only works with adults, and does not focus on CBT.

ETA, I made a mistake about this.  I have confirmed, below, that Dr. Mitchell does see children beginning at ages 7 or 8.  Thank you.

The best cognitive therapist I know, hands down, is Julia Turovsky in Chatham. We went to her out of network and she changed our daughter's life.

Check carefully about your out of network benefit.  A few years ago I used an out of network therapist (Summit Psychological) that west really wonderful. They ended up only costing me $5 more per session than if I had stayed in network.

Jasmo - thanks. I will have to let my Insurance company know that information.

Deborahg - thank you for the referral. I will check to see if she is in network.

alisons - At minimum we would have to meet an $1100 deductible. Then we would have to cover $5000 in out of pocket costs before any coverage was given.

It's a tough situation. As much as I want to do whatever it takes to help my child, I can't pay with money I don't have,

Are you sure about your out of network coverage? That sounds like a $6100 deductible. (not that $1100 is anything to sneeze at.)

deborahg, yes I am sure. Individual out of net deductible is $1100. Out of Network, out of pocket max is $5000.

Did that change? I know for a fact he saw some kids in middle school I knew but that was several years ago.

I think that means that after the $1100, the insurance kicks in and starts paying whatever percentage (70%?) that it covers for out of network.  So you don't have to pay the whole $5000 before getting any benefits.  It just means that if you pay $5000 then (I think) they start covering 100% unless they have other limits on coverage for mental health benefits, which might well be the case.  $1100 and 30 (or whatever) % may still be out of your reach, but it isn't $6100.

I stand corrected. I have confirmed that Barry Mitchell does see children, starting as young as 7 or 8.  Thanks for questioning.

That might only be true if there *is* out of network coverage, which some plans have dropped entirely.  And "Obamacare" plans do tend to require higher out of pocket expenses before greater coverage kicks in than some may be used to.

(eta, I see now, there is some kind of out of network coverage)
