I was thinking of the misfit Angel.

I've settled on Agnostic. I find it does not antagonize people and almost no one will argue with it.

It seems like the most reasonable choice. A bit of spiritual fence walking.

No… this place is a foxhole.

Ve belief in nussing Lebowski.

I dont believe in Jesus but I got a Jesus piece.

I usually say I am agnostic at best...

I don't believe in any god as promulgated by human-made religions but as I've aged I increasingly can't shake the belief that there isn't something behind the design of the universe.

I've posted this before, but I simply don't buy that evolution alone explains how this behavior arises.

All this to attract a female's attention?  I always knew I was born to live underwater.

As far as God goes, I've heard of and personally witnessed too many miracles (including the preservation of my son's life after a what should have been a fatal motorcycle accident 7 years ago) to think there isn't a great deal of power behind prayer.  I've always maintained that my relationship is with God and not a bunch of old guys in Rome.  But I appreciate that God has given me a next stage of life to look forward to, and that a better place is waiting for me when my body leaves this earth.  I have missed my dad and my brother for decades and am looking forward to a better life in their company again when I leave this earthly one.  Why not?

....something behind the design of the universe --- that's cool. But problems begin when you take that phrase and add "and" at the end of it. --- such as, "and he wants us to... and he doesn't want us to....

Maybe there was something behind. And maybe it died 7 billion years ago.

The biggest problem comes when people assume they know the answers to the universe and then work to impose their conclusions on everybody else.

Agreed.  I've never experienced a time, at least in the last 50 years, when so many people who have the power to enact laws have felt they have a God-given right or duty to impose their beliefs onto other peoples' lives -- in ways they just don't seem to understand will so heavily impact the lives of those they insist must be born into lives of woe.

There's nothing sadder to me than to think of the life that awaits an unwanted baby, or people who will -- in the name of God -- force life-long medical and mental damage on a woman (and man) who are forced to bring a child into the world knowing that (or perhaps for reasons beyond their control), they don't have the means to give it a happy, loving environment .... or the Crowd who thinks they can MAKE you give birth to that baby, but then step away from any responsibility to keep that baby well-fed, healthy, and happy once it is born.

This is the biggest rift between me and my church as it was created by men on earth.  Many people of my faith are unaware that the catechism allows Catholics to choose their own path, even if it differs from what the church teaches -- that God has gifted us with a superpower -- the power of REASON -- that allows us to make decisions we feel in our hearts and minds are right -- even if the Church teaches otherwise.  We, as one of the more enlightened generations to have walked the earth -- should use that power be able to feel comfortable that no one can impose their personal beliefs on others.  I'm a strong believer in "to each, his/her own.", But to approve and enforce laws that meet their beliefs but not others (in THIS country?) is beyond my ken.

I'm fascinated by other religions and would never assume an "I'm right/You need to think this way too" stance.  I believe what I believe, and you can too.  Doesn't get much more personal/individual than that.  My faith is a huge comfort to me. and I am grateful.

Man made God in his own image…

I may have to reconsider my comments about religion. Shortly after my comment all the power went out above Wyoming for almost 24 hours.

My feeling is that religion, even mine, is a personal hobby, like chess. Or scrapbooking. A strange and popular hobby, yes, but no more and no less. I think everyone should be able to play chess or scrapbook as they please, but I don't think the National Scrapbooking Association should influence public policy.

National Scrapbooking Association, maybe not but I could imagine the United States Chess Federation being quite successful at influencing public policy. Actually if they endorse a Presidential candidate, I'd give them a look.

That statement assumes that the various religions all have separate gods. I doubt that is the case, but each person is entitled to their own beliefs (but not to enforce them on others!)

This reminds me, must'a been 40 years or so ago. After the music format with Herb Oscar Anderson, WMCA was talk radio. One of the personalities was a guy, Dave Dawson (not the English actor) and he goes on a riff about God.

Man is made in God's image. Hmm .....I wonder if God has a willie? If he does, how big is it? From Jupiter to Alpha Centauri? Or Beyond? I wonder if he plays with his willie?

I had to pull off the road ---

About a day or two later, Dave's show was off the air.

As Robert Browning famously said, "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"

Makes me think of the title of this song:
