Another blue screen error question archived

I installed Kodak EasyShare software on our PC running Windows XP, and I was able to use the application. However, the next time I attempted to start Windows, I received the dreaded blue screen with the following message:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000012f (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

I tried to start Windows using the "last good configuration" option and in safe mode, but the same error appears.

Unfortunately, our PC is no longer under Dell warranty, so the only help they'll provide requires $$$. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this error? If not, can anyone recommend a good techie for hire who resolves this type of problem?

Thanks!

Monster? Case? can anyone help Tygar, aka Mr. quilter?
we got a virus removal message from mcafee, could that be the problem?

Thanks, Dave. Mr. Quilter had already read that article in his frantic search for a solution, but was stymied by his inability to start the PC in safe mode. He posted on a site (http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php ) that many people reference for this sort of situation, but is hyperventilating at the one suggestion he's received, which involves hacking the registry:

Is Mr. Quilter foolhardy to try something like this?

CQ, there is an automated tool on that site to do this. Any reason he can't use that?
