Advice on reaching the IRS?

My fault or theirs, I don't know, but these guys mishandled my payment when I paid for 2 years with one check.

When trying them on the phone, voicemail tells me they are exceedingly busy and I literally get disconnected when the voicemail maze reveals I need the assistance of a live body. Additionally, two letters, one sent certified, have been ignored and penalties continue to accrue.

If I can't reach them via phone or certified mail, what's left?

Try calling the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center or, if you have the time,  just go there in person.

Sheffield Street is a small street near the end of Mountain Avenue just before it meets Rt 22 West.

Truth, that is a GREAT suggestion, totally off my radar.

Another path is the Tax Advocate, which is "an independent organization within the IRS, TAS is here to protect your rights as a taxpayer, and help you with tax problems you can't resolve on your own."
