There seems to be a dizzying array of choices and a wide span in costs. Anyone recommend one the found to be tops

Friend who is an orthodontist couldn't recommend Philips Sonicare fast enough. Said to buy whichever is cheapest as the motors are all the same. Costco frequently has good deals on them.

According to my dental hygenist as long as you are using an electric toothbrush period (even the $8 colgate ones), you will get better results than using a standard toothbrush. In the past I've purchased the $70 e-series (?) model and switched to the $40 Sonic made for Target one because I was buying for 5 members of my family. Our dental hygenist continues to say how much an improvement she sees in our teeth since using the Sonic. $40 version included.

I recently got the Sonicare easy clean and love it. I take off the brush head when I'm done and it lives in a little bowl next to the sink to dry out, and I wipe down the handle each time. Takes two seconds but I read too much about the gunk that can build up in these to take chances. I'm super into oral hygiene (weird?) and am always at peace with how awesome my mouth feels after.

I have heard both good and bad concerning electric toothbrushes. I never used one until a few years ago, when my dentist at the time recommended them. I started using one, with no problems, until about six months ago, when I started having pain on one side of my mouth. My current dentist told me that the electric toothbrush had caused a groove near my gum line, and I should stop using my electric toothrbrush and go back to a regular one. My dentist is not fan of electric toothbrushes. I told him that, over the years, I had heard both pro and con regarding them, and he said that the latest research was against them, but that the research does change all the time. Since I stopped using one, the pain has all but disappeared. At my next check-up, I will be able to tell if I have any more cavities than usual, but I didn't have more problems before I used one, or less after I did.

It's on its way, thanks for all the input! Ordered a Phillips $50 model (listing for much more) thru Amazon. It is so easy to over buy devices such as these, but I was encouraged by the comments to buy only what we need.
