My Taylor Swift Fandom has always been a challenge. I catch a lot of heat about my "I <3 Taylor Swift" t-shirt. I'll concede that it's a little tight, but it's really hard to get them in Men's Large.
When it came in the mail, there was a a complimentary rain poncho with T.S. 1989 Graphics on it that I thought was just a garbage bag and stuffed under the kitchen sink.
I really respect that she releases albums on vinyl so dads in their 40s, like me, can relate, in spite of the fact that it's a digital recording and all of the timbre of vinyl has been flattened before it went to press.
Despite all this, and my wife being "creeped out" when she went to replace a garbage bag in our kitchen and unfolded a T.S 1989 Rain Poncho, I have remained a loyal fan.
"Shake it off" was ear worm crack. Rivaled only by "Hey Yah!" in both dancibility and message.
Then, I noticed the song,"Delicate" on the radio, and wondered who the singer was. When I mentioned it to my 11 yo daughter she said, "Dad! It's Taylor Swift! Your favorite musician!" She had done it again - written a perfect song.
THEN! Then, she releases this awful abomination of a song called "Me." I change the channel or say, "Hey Google, skip," whenever it comes on my Taylor Swift playlist on Spotify (It's usually the first song!) WTF? How could such a talented and beautiful young artist suddenly create a parasitic ear worm that I can't get out of my head, no matter how many times I try the brain bleach that is "Thank you, next," by Arianna Grande. (I always substitute "Bacon, eggs" in the chorus and think about brunch.)
Still, I can't get "ME-HEE-HEE" out of my head, It's enough to make an almost 50 yo man stop wearing his "I <3 Taylor Swift t-shirt."
(My wife threw out the poncho.)
There must be a support group out there for you. ;-)
I love this post.
JB- first time I heard it, it didn’t hit. But it grew on me. The song really is a nice piece of bravado....after listing all the things wrong with her (“I know I went psycho on the phone”) she declares herself to be awesome. Self awareness followed by deliberate dismissal of all the things she knows about herself.
Sort of reminds me of Blank Space in that regard.
Her riffing on the outro with a bit of gravel in the normal TS voice is pretty good too.
(Cough). Um. So that’s what I think.
For those who don't have the "Me Hee Hee" chorus in their head yet - here you go (197+ million views):
Chords under the chorus sound like another variation on Pachelbel's Canon in D
I don't know if I should laugh or cry for you JB.
Just tell yourself every musician has at least one song their most loyal fans don't like. If that doesn't work I suggest you follow Dave's advice and find a support group.
Maplewood is a stigma free community so don't stress over it, you will be accepted either way.

Mooooooo.......meeee SHARK do do do do do do! Mommy shark do do do do do do mommy shh....(starts weeping )
I feel fortunate that Baby Shark was part of my daughter's Girl Scout songs years ago, and it seems that provided some inoculation against catching the earworm.
Sadly, not having children does not provide protection..... I’m desperately fighting the urge to turn up the volume on YouTube, and infect my husband!
I gave in.
Speaking as NOT a Tay-Tay fan, You Need To Calm Down is crazy catchy and features some of the most fabulous cameos in its video.
