Writing in the Raw (workshop)

Event Date: April 1st, 2015 at 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Address : 7 Midland Blvd, Maplewood, NJ 0740
Town : Maplewood
Information:

Writing in the Raw is a five-week series of creative writing workshops for writers of all levels -- emerging and experienced -- where writers have the chance to connect with the raw power of their authentic writers’ voices. What distinguishes this workshop from traditional writing workshops is that group members write together during the workshop in response to prompts. When the writing activity is ended, group members are invited to read their work aloud. Because we recognize that the work is “raw” – unedited and unrefined – the group only responds positively to the writing. We listen for what is strong, what is working, and what is memorable in each piece. We do not critique. The last week of the series is used to conduct manuscript reviews for members who want more balanced critical feedback of their writing, after they have revised their raw work. Workshop Leader: Jill Quist, Founder and President of The Mindful Muse, is a Writer, Editor, Communications Specialist, Creativity Coach and Professional Organizer. She has been leading Writing in the Raw workshops for two years and is a certified workshop leader in the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) method that was originated by Pat Schneider and described in her book Writing Alone and With Others (published by Oxford University Press). The fee for Writing in the Raw is $150.00. For newcomers the first week is FREE so the total fee is $120.00.
