Opening:  Thursday, April 7, 2016; 7-9pm   “..the reality of what we see and what we know is never settled…” John Berger   Photographers don’t always present straight forward images of what they see. This exhibition examines how the evolving techniques of photographic manipulation have allowed photographers to create alternate realities, new identities, convey messages and tell stories in our tech savvy world.  As a title, ‘Untitled.jpg’ refers to the way we save files electronically. Using an anonymous technical term for the title of this exhibition leaves viewers free to project their own meanings on the works of art while at the same time it references the vast digital photographic material available to artists today. Guest Curators Meghan Maloney and Wannita Makaroon from the Seton Hall Graduate program in Museum Professions have chosen nineteen artists who use a variety of techniques to transform their photographs into new works of art.   In some ways, the artists’ methods have become metaphors for the uncertainty surrounding us today, underpinning an ambiguity about how willing we are to believe what our eyes see.
