Thursday Night Book Club We’ll be discussing two plays this month: A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry: This groundbreaking play revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of a black family in Chicago\'s South Side. Winner of the NY Drama Critic\'s Award as Best Play of the Year, it has been hailed as a \"pivotal play in the history of the American Black theatre.\" by Newsweek. Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris: This spin-off of A Raisin in the Sun portrays fictional events set before and after the Hansberry play, and is loosely based on historical events that took place in Chicago. As described by the Washington Post, the play \"applies a modern twist to the issues of race and housing and aspirations for a better life.\" The play a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play. Thursday, June 4 7:00 pm at Main Library Free and open to the public.
