Relive the immortal and inspiring repertoire of American hero Paul Robeson at this compelling concert from American bass Kevin Maynor and Trilogy: An Opera Company. Kevin Maynor, a leading American bass known for his performances at the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera, recaptures the words and songs of Paul Robeson, the legendary singer, actor and activist. Paul Robeson Remembered, presented by Trilogy: An Opera Company, includes excerpts from the opera Robeson by Adolphus Hailstork. “The resemblance between the voices of Maynor and Robeson is almost uncanny,” says ClassicalNet. Paul Robeson was an athlete, lawyer, actor, singer, activist – and today remains one of American history’s most enduring heroes. Using the songs of black America as well as both folk and art songs from around the world, Robeson exposed and celebrated the struggles of all those disrespected because of the color of their skin or their particular political interests. This program of inspiring words and music is built on Robeson’s strategic choice of repertoire, all performed by Maynor, whose performances have been acclaimed at many of the nation’s top symphony orchestras and opera companies. Reviewing Paul Robeson Remembered, Fanfare magazine wrote: \"(Maynor’s) is a superb voice, a voice to compare not only to Robeson but also to Alexander Kipnis, to Boris Christoff, even to Ezio Pinza – in other words, to the very greatest bass voices of the century.\" Paul Robeson Remembered is presented at NJPAC in cooperation with the Newark-based Trilogy: An Opera Company.
