Open House - South Mountain Co-op

South Mountain Co-op is a non-profit, private K-12 school, and the only democratic free school in northern New Jersey. We are half way through our founding year, and will be accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year very soon. In simplest terms, at a democratic free school, classes are offered, but not required. Children are free to pursue their own interests at their own pace. It is a mixed age environment where children can group themselves by interest and development, rather than age. And the school is governed by consensus, with students and staff having equal say in the decision-making process (everything from how to spend the materials budget, to acceptable conduct, to limits on computer time).
