James Gibbs III, who recently worked and toured with eight-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Joe Thomas, was born in Newark and raised in Irvington, New Jersey. Gibbs began playing the trumpet at the age of 14 at The New Brunswick Jazz Institute under instructor and legendary organist Radam Schwartz.
