Professor Toshio Okimatsu teaches a hands-on workshop of Ikenobo Ikebana. Ikenobo is the oldest and largest school of Ikebana, or Japanese floral art in Japan, founded in the 15th century by the Buddhist monk Ikenobo Senno. Ikebana is much more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a highly disciplined art form where nature and humanity are brought together. Professor Okimatsu is the Vice President of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of New Jersey. Students will learn about the history of Ikenobo Ikebana and will make their own arrangement under Professor Okimatsu’s expert guidance. All materials are provided but students must bring scissors.
