Kings in Maplewood and We Got Movies in South Orange will continue to sell until 9:00 PM. Buttons will be sold for $10 for ages four and up with three years and younger free. Buttons will be available at the door for $15.00. ACT DESCRIPTIONS: AFTERNOON - 3:00PM TO 5:00PM Kenya Safari Acrobats - Born in East Africa and performing together worldwide for over 11 years, the members of this troupe wows audiences everywhere with their acrobatic feats. Add to that a little African magic, a little limbo and a dynamic energy level. Pure entertainment! Sterling Hall Auditorium ? 3:00pm, 3:45pm, 4:30pm Drumming Circle with Richard Reiter - Have a great time celebrating rhythm with Richard Reiter?s ?Spiritual Drumming? workshop. Children, teens, and adults drum together in this exhilarating and unifying activity. Reiter, a nationally acclaimed jazz musician, studied African drumming in Senegal and he brings many drums for everyone to use (but bring yours if you have one). No musical training is necessary! Reiter has led this event for First Nights (Montclair, Maplewood/South Orange, Outpost in the Burbs, Montclair Adult School, Montclair Art Museum, and many churches, schools, and corporations. Together, participants experience a unity of spirit as they let go of their stress and discover the joy of drumming. Gym ? 3:00pm to 5:00pm Lori Mirabel - Lori Mirabel?s Itsy Bitsy Spider show is a creative, fun, and interactive program that introduces children (and the young at heart) to the basic elements of opera. Some of the topics covered in the show include: voice types, composers, and arias. The show culminates into an improvised opera performed and directed by audience members. Little Theatre ? 3:15pm, 4:15pm EVENING 7:30 PM TO MIDNIGHT New York Express Roller Dance Company - New York Express Roller Dance Company is an exciting mixture of contemporary dance and roller skating coupled with traditional training and the street style jazz. The company combines the athleticism of precision dance and acrobatics with mime and theatre. Sterling Hall Auditorium ? 8: 15pm, 9:45pm Will Shaw - Will Shaw presents the ?Fun and Funny Juggling Show,? an award-winning blend of physical comedy, verbal wit, and amazing skills. Audiences of all ages will be treated to astounding displays of juggling, hat tricks, music, balance tricks, sight gags, cowboy rope spinning, boomerangs, spinning tops, audience participation and offbeat but sophisticated clowning steeped in the traditions of the great comedians from the silent film era to the present. Sterling Hall Auditorium ? 7:30pm, 9:00pm, 10:30pm Adam Auslander - For Adam Auslander, entertaining people is a way of life. After graduating from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus clown school in 1988, Adam spent a year touring with the circus, which he describes as, "doing something fun, wacky, and creative" every day. Adam has worked with the Big Apple Circus and the NY Goofs, has been on the Late Show with David Letterman and trained clowns for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He has also appeared in a variety of commercials, short films, and off-Broadway productions. Little Theatre ? 7:30pm, 9:00pm, 10:30pm Lisa Lou - Amazing circus acts from around the world presented by Lisa Lou. Plate spinning, rope spinning, juggling, mime, magic and mayhem. Lisa has performed at the Showboat in Atlantic City, dancing on stilts for the fans each day for over seven years. Before that Lisa worked in New York City hospitals with the Big Apple Circus ?Clown Care Unit!? The Detroit News said, "Her life is a circus, but that's entertainment for Lisa Lou!" Little Theatre ? 8:15pm, 9:45pm Phillip Jennings - The Magic of Phillip Jennings is a comedy oriented, colorful magic show for family audiences. You will witness classical and modern-effect magic with lots of audience participation. Balloons and stuffed animal prizes, birds and large stage illusions are just some of the many surprises in the Magic of Phillip Jennings show. Gym I ? 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm Gotham City Swing Quintet - A Jump Blues and Swing Band with an exciting sound guaranteed to get you up and out on the dance floor. Take off your shoes and dance in the New Year to original songs as well as the classics. Featuring some of the best blues and swing talent in New Jersey! Gym II ? 8:00pm, 9:00pm, 10:00pm The Strollers of Maplewood - The Strollers returning to First Night Maplewood/South Orange, will perform ?The Curious Case of Kernan?s Quarry,? interactive intrigue for the whole family. What really happened in the Quarry 150 years ago, and what will the consequences bring today? Join the Stroller?s in some scintillating sleuthing. Library ? 7:30pm, 9:15pm Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre - Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre?s improvisational comedy troupe, Multiple Personality Disorder, will create sketches on-the-spot with input from the audience. The show is never the same twice, and always great fun for the whole family. Come for an unpredictable, unique comedy experience!! Library ? 8 :30pm, 10:15pm Kathy Devine - A very unique storyteller, Kathy?s stories are wonderfully enthralling and the warmth of her personality radiates throughout the narration. Music Room 283 ? 7:30pm, 9:00pm, 10:30pm Broad Street Troubadours - The Broad Street Troubadours with Barry Bloodgood on guitar and vocals and Jodi DiLiberto on recorder, mountain dulcimer, and vocals, are a lively duo who sing English folk songs and country dance and Celtic music. They have played for six seasons in the New York Renaissance Faire and perform in period costume. Music Room 283 ? 8:15pm, 9:45pm, 11:15pm Heather Mulvey - Native New Jerseyan Heather Mulvey has been entertaining audiences of all ages with her captivating vocals and finger-picking acoustic guitar since the early 90s. She performs music ranging from traditional Americana and bluegrass to Celtic to contemporary folk. She gladly returns to First Night Maplewood/South Oranges. Music Room 285 ? 7:45pm, 8:30pm 13 Scotland Road - A local Maplewood/South Orange band, 13 Scotland Road will present a complex fusion of all types of music. Music Room 285 ? 9:15pm, 10:00pm, 10:45pm Mary Kao - Mary Kao invites guests to drop in at any time and make one or several of the various Origami features. A First Night star returns in this fun-filled family activity appropriate for all ages. Selecting the level of challenge is left up to each participant?s hands-on experience. Classroom t/b/a Cabaret - Cafeteria 7:30pm to Midnight ? Schedule Available at the Door Steven Hollow - Emcee for the evening. Here to move the show along and contribute to the chuckles if not the belly-laughs, Steven Hollow is a master puppeteer, storyteller, director and writer. And, a really funny comedian! Please don't tell him how good we think he is - we'd have to pay him more! Liz Bolick - Liz Bolick brings her unique skills and talents to our stage featuring circus skills, physical comedy and great music. Her dazzling visuals, charming wit and lyrical style is simply delightful. O'Connor and Vogel - In "Guy and Doll" and their new "How To Be Perfect," Brian O'Connor and Debra Vogel have delighted audiences. With their patented brand of character duets from the treasure trove of musical theater, along with a satirical take on contemporary 'self-help gurus,' O'Connor & Vogel have created another mini- musical comedy with songs including "You're The Boss" (Leiber/Stoller), "Talk To Me Baby" (Dolan/Mercer), "Therapy" (Larson), "Economics" (Lerner/Weill) and "Nobody's Perfect" (Schmidt/Jones). Don't expect your usual cabaret fare. Rob Weinstein - Rob Weinstein is considered one of the classiest comedians in the country whose clean, intelligent humor makes him a favorite at New York City's and Los Angeles' best comedy clubs including The Comic Strip and The Laugh Factory and on NBC, MTV, Fox, Lifetime, and Comedy Central's "Two Drink Minimum." Arlon Bennett - The beauty and simplicity of the music of Arlon Bennett is largely attributed to his honesty as a songwriter, his sense of humor and simplistic eloquence. His soothing vocal melodies and lilting acoustic guitar create an ambience that is both romantic and inspiring. David Tyson - David Tyson is a modern-day jester, with extensive experience in popular and physical theater forms including mime, clown, melodrama, improvisation, and Commedia Dell?Arte. He has performed extensively in such venues as EPCOT Center in Walt Disney World, the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, and, most recently, a stint at the famed LaMama Theatre in New York City.
